HARROLD SPARTAN FOOTBALL

October 29, 2003

Harrold 14    Southmoreland 2

The Harrold Spartans ended their season with a major victory over the previously unbeaten and first-place Southmoreland Scotties.  The victory, which was the sixth consecutive win for Harrold (including a forfeit win against Ringgold), consisted of tremendous team effort and big plays.

The first score of the game was set-up on a sixty-yard interception by Nick Higinbotham.  The return left the Spartans with a first and goal from the five-yard line.  Josh Gardner scored a touchdown on the very next play, and Travis Bozik added the two-point conversion on a pass from Shawn Faulk.  The first half ended with Harrold in the lead by a score of 8 – 0.

The second half was dominated by the Harrold defense.   Matt Talkington, Josh Gardner, Matt DiClaudio, and Jeremy Kettering made tackles for a loss of yards, while the remainder of the defense (Travis Bozik, Rich Smith, Chris Johnson, John Miliczki, Zac Blahovec, Joe McIntyre, and Nick Higinbotham) played with heart and determination.  The defense held Southmoreland scoreless until the team took an intentional safety.

After regaining field position, Joe McIntyre sealed the victory with a touchdown run and an interception on the following defensive series.  The Spartans defeated the Scotties by a score of 14 – 2.  The team finished with a record of 6 wins, 2 losses, and 1 tie.
