Saturday, May 8th -- WAADA Invitational

On Saturday, the Hempfield middle school track teams participated in the WAADA Invitational, which involved teams from Westmoreland, Fayette, and Indiana counties.  The following Harrold students earned points at the meet:

Beth Conrad (2 points) – fifth in the shot put

Shawn Quatse (2 points) – fourth in the 1600-meter relay and sixth in the 400 meters

Jeremy Kettering (1 point) – fourth in the 400-meter relay

Congratulations to those athletes for their tremendous performance!

 

Thursday, May  6th -- Indiana at Hempfield Silver

Congratulations to the eighth grade boys’ track team for defeating Indiana yesterday by a score of 77 – 49.  The following boys earned points for the team

Jeremy Kettering (9¼ points) – first in the 100 meters and 400-meter relay and second in the 200 meters

Shawn Quatse (5 points) – first in the 400 meters

 

The following girls scored points at yesterday’s meet against Indiana:

Kim Kanala (8 points) – first in the discus and second in the shot put

Beth Conrad (1½ points) – third in the shot put and discus

Amber Stahl (1 point) – third in the 800 meters

Alicia Dupilka (½ point) – third in the discus

 

Thursday, May 6th -- Hempfield Blue at Derry

The following seventh graders scored points at yesterday’s meet against Derry Area:

Amy Pushwa (10 points) – first in the 1600 meters and 800 meters

Christian Hensler (5¼ points) – 1st in the 1600-meter relay, 2nd in the 400 meters, and 3rd in the long jump

Ryan Nedley (3 points) – second in the high jump

Chris Mallory (3 points) – second in the long jump

Gilly Diffenderfer (1¼ points) – first in the 400-meter relay

Olivia Halula (1 point) – third in the 800 meters

Monday, May 3rd -- PLUM INVITATIONAL

Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade girls’ track team for winning the Plum Invitational yesterday with a total of 94.5 points.  The following Harrold girls earned points for the team:

Kim Kanala (18 points) – first in the shot put and second in the discus

Amy Pushwa (4 points) – fifth in the 1600 meters and fifth in the 800 meters

Amber Stahl (1 point) – sixth in the 1600 meters

Gilly Diffenderfer (½ point) – fifth in the 400-meter relay

Katie Thompson, from Wendover, led all Hempfield girls in scoring with 22 points.  Kim Kanala, from Harrold, was second in scoring with 18 points.  Kim set a new personal record in the discus with a throw of 83 feet 3 inches and a new meet record in the shot put with a throw of 31 feet 7 inches.  Way to go, Kim!

The 7th and 8th grade boys’ track team finished second at the Plum Invitational with 92.33 points, losing only to Gateway.  The following Harrold boys earned points for the team:

Shawn Quatse (6 points) – second in the 1600-meter relay and fourth in the 400 meters

Jeremy Kettering (4 ½ points) – third in the 400-meter relay, fifth in the 100 meters, and sixth in the 200 meters

Congratulations to both teams for an excellent performance!  The 7th and 8th grade track teams continue their Invitational season on Wednesday with the Seneca Valley Relays.  The following Harrold track team members have been invited to attend:  Jeff Schleicher, Mark Bartels, Bobby Pushwa, Adam Toomey, Jeremy Kettering, Shawn Quatse, Grant Watkiss, Joe Bisping, Amber Stahl, Brenna Hogan, Melissa Collins, Olivia Halula, Amy Pushwa, Meaghan Means, Kim Kanala, Alicia Dupilka, and Beth Conrad. 

 

Thursday, April 29th -- CALIFORNIA UNIVERSITY INVITATIONAL

Congratulations to the following seventh and eighth grade track team members for earning points at yesterday’s California Invitational:

Shawn Quatse – first in the 1600-meter relay and fourth in the 400 meters

Jeremy Kettering – second in the 400-meter relay and fourth in the 200 meters

Amy Pushwa – second in the 1600-meter relay and a top six finish in the 800 meters

Grant Watkiss – sixth in the 800 meters

Chris Hensler – second in the 1600-meter relay

Gilly Diffenderfer – a top six finish in the 400-meter relay

Olivia Halula – second in the 1600-meter relay

Meaghan Means – second in the 1600-meter relay

A special “congratulations” goes out to Kim Kanala for placing first in the discus with a throw of 80 feet 9 inches and second in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet 2 ½ inches.  Her winning throw in the discus was eleven feet better than second place.

 

Tuesday, April 27th -- Mount Pleasant and Aquinas Academy at Hempfield Blue

Congratulations to the following seventh grade track team members for earning points at yesterday's meet against the Mount Pleasant Vikings:

Chris Hensler (9.25 points) - first in the 400 meters and 1600-meter relay; second in the long jump

Amy Pushwa (8 points) - first in the 800 meters and second in the 1600 meters

Ryan Nedley (5 points) - first in the high jump

Jeff Schleicher (3 points) - second in the 1600 meters

Mark Bartels (1 point) - third in the 1600 meters

Nick Huhn (1 point) - third in the 200 meters

Bobby Pushwa (1 point) - third in the 800 meters

 

Monday, April 26th -- Uniontown and Jeannette at Hempfield Silver

Congratulations to the Hempfield Silver boys’ track team for defeating the Uniontown Red Raiders and the Jeannette Jayhawks yesterday in a double-dual meet.  The boys defeated Uniontown by a score of 85 – 33 and Jeannette by a score of 101 – 17.  The following eighth grade boys earned points during the meet:

Jeremy Kettering (16 ½ TOTAL points)

Shawn Quatse (10 ½ points)

Joe Bisping (6 points)

Adam Toomey (2 points)

Congratulations to the Hempfield Silver girls’ track team for defeating the Uniontown Red Raiders and the Jeannette Jayhawks yesterday in a double-dual meet.  The girls defeated Uniontown by a score of 68 – 46 and Jeannette by a score of 92 – 28.  The following eighth grade girls earned points during the meet:

Wednesday, April 21st -- Hempfield Silver at Penn Middle School

Congratulations to the Hempfield Silver boys’ track team for defeating the Penn Middle School Warriors by a score of 97 – 21.  The following eighth grade boys scored points for the team:

Jeremy Kettering (9 ¼ points) – first in the 200 meters and 400-meter relay and second in the 100 meters

Shawn Quatse (6 ¼ points) – first in the 400 meters and 1600-meter relay

Joe Bisping (3 points) – second in the pole vault

Monday, April 19th -- Hempfield Silver at Greensburg Salem

Congratulations to the eighth grade girls’ track team for defeating the Greensburg Salem Golden Lions by a score of 57 – 52.  The following girls scored points for the team:

Kim Kanala (8 points) – first in the shot put and second in the discus

Amber Stahl (6 points) – second in the 1600 meters and 800 meters

Congratulations to the following eighth grade boys for also scoring points at yesterday’s meet against Greensburg Salem:

Jeremy Kettering (7.25 points) – first in the 400-meter relay and second in the 100 and 200 meters

Shawn Quatse (4.25 points) – first in the 1600-meter relay and second in the 400 meters

The eighth grade boys lost to the Golden Lions by a score of 60 – 58.

 

Thursday, April 15th -- Yough at Hempfield Blue

Congratulations to the seventh grade boys’ track team for defeating the Yough Cougars by a score of 63 – 53.  The following boys earned points at the meet:

Chris Hensler (11.25 points) – first in the 400 meters, first in the 1600 meter relay, and first in the long jump

Grant Watkiss (6 points) – first in the 800 meters and third in the high jump

Josh Lowden (3 points) – second in the pole vault

Chris Mallory (1 point) – third in the long jump

Jeff Schleicher (1 point) – third in the 1600 meters

Congratulations to the seventh grade girls’ track team for defeating the Yough Cougars by a score of 78 – 27.  The following girls earned points at the meet:

Meaghan Means (6.25 points) – first in the 400 meters and first in the 1600 meter relay

Amy Pushwa (6 points) – second in the 1600 meters and second in the 800 meters

Camille DeVaney (1 point) – third in the high jump

Olivia Halula (1 point) – third in the 400 meters

The meet against Yough represented the first time this year that both the boys and girls were victorious on the same day.  Great job 7th graders!

 

Wednesday, April 14th -- Norwin at Hempfield Silver

Congratulations to the eighth grade boys’ track team for defeating the Norwin Knights by a score of 67 – 51.  The following team members earned points at the meet:  Jeremy Kettering (first place in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meter relay) and Shawn Quatse (first place in the 1600 meter relay and second place in the 400 meters).

The following girls also earned points against Norwin:  Alicia Dupilka (third place in the discus) and Kim Kanala (first place in the shot put and second place in the discus).

 

Wednesday, April 7th -- Hempfield Silver at Franklin Regional

Congratulations to following athletes for earning points against Franklin Regional:  Jeremy Kettering (first place in the 100 meters and 400 meter relay AND second place in the 200 meters), Joe Bisping (second place in the pole vault), Shawn Quatse (third place in the 400 meters), and Amber Stahl (third place in the 1600 meters).

At the meet, the eighth grade boys defeated Franklin Regional by a score of 75 – 42.  Jeremy Kettering scored 9.25 points to lead the team.

 

Tuesday, April 6th -- Connellsville West/Greensburg Salem at Hempfield Blue

Congratulations to the 7th grade girls’ track team for defeating Connellsville West yesterday by a score of 57 – 43.  Meaghan Means scored 4 points for the team by finishing second in the 400 meters against Greensburg Salem and third against Connellsville.  Olivia Halula scored 1 point by finishing third in the 800 meters against Connellsville.

The following 7th grade boys also scored points at yesterday’s meet:  Josh Lowden (second in the 400 meters against Connellsville), Chris Hensler (first in the 1600 meter relay and second in the long jump against Connellsville), and Grant Watkiss (first in the 800 meters and second in the high jump against Connellsville AND second in the 800 meters against Greensburg Salem).  Grant, who scored a total of 11 points yesterday, earned an athletic letter in one meet.

 

Wednesday, March 31st -- Latrobe at Hempfield Silver

Congratulations to the following 8th grade track team members for scoring points at yesterday’s home meet against Latrobe:  Jeremy Kettering (third in the 100 meters, third in the 200 meters, and first in the 400 meter relay) and Shawn Quatse (first in the 400 meters).
