Frequently asked questions

There are a number of questions that can be asked when you first start the game and the whole process of starting play can feel a little overwhelming when you're faced with a number of different starting options. This section hopes to alleviate some of the problems facing apprentice players and aims to answer most questions that are generally asked. The Apprentice Lords board in the forum is the best place to visit to ask any further questions or for clarifications that aren't made here.

Game Questions

What do I do first? How do I get started?
I would start by buying a market first then waiting a few days to make an attack, but there are people who try to get their three starter buildings right off (Fort, barracks and market). I think it is too risky, but you can try and see how that goes. To get started, just register, pick a race and get the right buildings.

How do I make or join a clan?
To make or join a clan, you have to be lvl 5 and have your first lvl HQ. Once you have reached this stage (which may take about a week or two), you are free to apply to clans or even run your own. NB: Getting your own members can initially be quite a challenging process particularly later on during a round when many have established themselves in other clans. People often like to play LoL with those they already know (or those they can take advice from 'in clan') but if you are keen to make your own, then give it a go! You can always direct them to the forum too!

What’s invisibility?
Invisibility is a way of playing so that you dont have to be very active. Players usually just get up to 999APs then start attacking people twice their power to keep invisible, but still gain gold and power. You dont come out of invisibility until you successfully win an attack.

How does the treasury work? How do I get gold in and out of it?
Treasury gold is gold you can spend on armory and buildings. To get gold in, you get 1% gold on hand put in each tic, with the income being capped at 3500 gold (holding 350,000 gold gets the max treasury income). Treasury gold will be deducted when you buy any buildings or armory. Note: if you have enough gold on hand to get your building, it will still take the gold out of your treasury even if you dont want it to.

What’s DA/WA/WB?
DA is Defense Adjustment. This works best when attacking, the more DA, the less you make your opponents attack roll (Note: when attacking, your fort does not count in this, nor do your towers). WA is Weapons Adjustment. This works best in defense (yea, weird right). This helps lower your opponents rolls when you are being attacked. WB is Weapon Bonus. This is harder to describe. This lowers the amount of damage you have to do to kill a unit. So, more WB usually means more kills.

What do races bonuses do? What's the best race?
Race bonuses are little extras that each races do, for example, Humans have an income bonus of 10%, so they get more gold than other races, for example. The 'best' race is often contested and changes from round to round and has been the subject of many a heated debate as people do not always agree. The best thing to do is just to pick the one you like the sound of and play it to form your own opinion. Many change races from round to round so that they can try out the others for comparison.

What do I do about this secure code when I buy mercs?
Just put in the secure code(1-9) and then put in the amount of mercenaries you want to buy, and hit purchase. You should then be able to buy mercs.

When I buy units the power doesn’t add up correctly.
When you buy a trained unit, it will cost at least one mercenary (as that is what you are training) to upgrade to another type. Level 5 units (catapults etc.) may cost more mercenaries (usually two, sometimes three) so these powers have to be factored in to the final power increase.

My market didn’t open. Why?
Check first that you are not on 999AP. Your account will not advance and your market will not open whilst you are sitting on this amount. Then check your market screen for the time it should have opened. The time given is game time and may not be the same time zone as you are playing from. (E.g. in the UK, game time is usually five hours behind UK time).

I got exp for defending successfully!
From lvl 0-4 you do not gain any exp for defending successfully, but from lvl 5 on up you do. Its a perk for being a good defender and will help you rise in levels that bit faster.

How do I find my exp to level?
Go to your profile page and it should be under your Warlord/Race line. Example: Level / Experience 12 / 162,373 ( 22,427 until next level).

What does income cap mean?
Income Cap is when your income stops growing:
Non-human: 85,000/21,250 or 42,500 (24 hr market)
Human 90,000/22,500 or 45,000 (24 hr market)
At this point, the only way your income per turn can increase is by buying more market upgrades. This is not always a good idea, it very much depends on how long the round has been running.

What’s a WSS/EOP?
A WSS is a Warlord Seeing Stone, this gives you information on your opponents army, shows his army units, his armory and the chances you will win. An Eye of Prosperity is an item used to put your attack pages in order from highest to lowest gold from the people that ARE in your attack ranges. Each stone can only be used once.

Why didn’t my WSS show anything?
The warlord was probably in Vacation Mode or has maximum attack points. You cannot view those who are frozen in the game and it will use the stone. Don't worry too much - you will find that you get plenty more.

Why can’t I buy any mercenaries?
You may not have the gold or you are being attacked while trying to buy mercs. When the attacking stops, you will be able to spend down. You can try to spend down on armory or training units, that will still work. Alternatively, there may be none left. If this is case, more will become available at the beginning of the next tic.

How can I get money without attacking? How do I get money fast?
Your income gives you money without attacking. That is the only way without attacking to get gold. To get gold fast, you should try attacking high gold targets.

How can I get allies?
To get allies, join a clan. Those other 29 people wont be able to attack you and they can help get more income with their markets. Also, to get more allies, your clan can have an alliance with another clan, and that clan wont be able to attack you. Your clan leader, or a 2nd in command, will probably responsible for the diplomacy involved there.

I'm getting attacked and I can't buy mercs! Help!
Even before the advent of the secure code it was almost impossible to spend gold on mercenary units quickly enough. If you can't and your gold is high, then preferably spend it on trained units or armour. Keep space in a level 4 or 5 building to anticipate such attacks especially whilst on building runs otherwise buy efficient armory for your troops. Even if you can't use it straight away, it'll be worthwhile in the long run and having armor you can't use YET is better than nothing because the gold has been lost.

What’s a ‘level 1’ unit? Or the other types?
A lvl 1 unit is the first lvl merc you can buy on each merc page. The name varies by race as well, go to Race Details in game to find the name of each lvl 1 unit and also the other units as well.

What happens when I log out? Does the game carry on?
When you log out, you are just no longer in the game, you are still attackable though. Yes, the game carries on. You keep gaining gold, APs, and power (at 2:30AM game time).

How much gold does market give?
The formula is:
50 + ( 8 x the number of members in the clan excluding yourself)
so in a full clan it would be:
50 + ( 8 X 29 ) = 282 gold per market upgrade

What's the difference between 24 hr and 8 hr market?
24 hr market will give the same amount of gold spread out equally for 24 hours of the day whereas the 8 hour market will give out a significant bulk of your daily gold every 30 minutes for an 8 hour 'slot'. You can choose the hour your market opens. You get the same amount of daily gold using either method. It just distributes that money using different methods.

A 24hr market is exactly the average of the open/closed income (e.g. 31,726+7,932 divided by 2) or for those who hate calculators, it's 2x your market closed income, every tic.

Forum Questions

I can’t edit my signature and profile in forum.
The feature to edit your signature has been locked, nobody is able to edit their signature aside from showing your Clan and PvP power and PvP high scores and how many times you have played.

How do I show my signature in the forum?
To show your signature, go to the lordsoflegend game, go to edit account, and check the box that says "Show Signature" and then log in the forum from there. For PvP, it will always glitch but if you log into the main game, it will quickly fix the problem.

My signature is all messed up and says I’m someone I’m not!
As said in the above answer, your PvP signature will glitch if you log into the forum from PvP. Just go to the main game and log into the forum from there and it should fix it, with your currect PvP power and currect main game power (that is, if you have check the boxes in the edit account to show the signature).

How do I post pictures on the forum?
To post a picture from your computer on the forum, you need to have an account on an image uploading site such as Photobucket. Once you have uploaded it onto this site, you can resize the image from the toolbar above the photo then use the bottom link to the right of the picture called "IMG Code - Forums & Bulletin Boards" - copy the link and paste it into a post in the forum. This will display your image.

Why can't I click on links that people post?
The links that people post in the forum have been broken so they are not 'live'. This means that there is a break in the link, usually after the www. and the title of the website. To open it, copy and paste the link into a browser window and remove the space between the dot and the rest of the link. The links are posted this way so that you cannot "accidently" visit a website that causes problems or distress (e.g. viruses, awkward content, etc.).

How do I get the smilies on my forum posts?
When you are posting, click the "Go Advanced" button and the smilies will come up on the right of your posting box. Click the 'More' box to get a list of all the smilies, then highlight the words next to the smiley eg. devil2 and your smiley will be in your post. If you do not see a selection of smilies, PM an Immortal(IE: Psyched or Toebin) and they can unlock them for you.

I played a round of the clan game already and my round counter hasn’t changed.
The round counter in your signature only records the PvP rounds played, not clan rounds. So play PvP if you want to increase the round counter and get a high score.

I’m not receiving PMs and a friend told me they sent one.
Your PM box may be full, your inbox can contain a certain amount of mail before you stop receiving at all. Just clear your inbox and you should receive the mail. Also, make sure your friend is sending it to you and not somebody else. And lastly, make sure he/she is sending it via forum and not via LoL.

Why can't I close my thread?
Due to the Admin options with this version of vBulletin, threads can only be closed by the staff. This can be a bother to both thread owners and the staff but that is just how it is. If you would like your thread to be closed, PM (personal message) a moderator who can close it for you or ask in the relevant thread.

Why did I get edited?
The forum is rated "G" and is classed as "family friendly" which means that there may be children reading and hence usually the moderators edit posts due to bad language (swearing). If you are not sure why you have been edited, PM the moderator who edited you (it will say at the bottom of your post "Edited last by...whoever") and they will explain the reason. Many of the Mods will send a PM to let you know why you've been edited anyway. In regards to pictures, sometimes the moderators may edit your post to re-size the picture or fix the link but will usually alert you if this happens.

What’s a warrior of Legend? What’s with all these other titles and stars? How do I stop being a peasant?

Important Features

The 5 IP rule
There is a limit placed on the number of people who can play from the same IP address (usually the same PC or school, sometimes AOL or other providers). If there are five or more of you playing from the same IP, then the game will freeze all of those accounts. This is a measure to limit multiple accounts by players. You can all still play but you'll need to join or make other clans to all play.

Level 40 cap
This only applies to the clan game. If you reach level 40 and have not yet joined a clan, you may find that your account has been reset. You can play solo in PVP but the clan game requires that past a certain point, you join a clan. You can also make a clan but will need to collect some other members for the clan to be made permanent. After level 40, if unclanned, the game will automatically reset the account at the midnight tic.

The Treasury
The treasury is a building that stores one percent of your gold on hand each turn. This gold can be used to buy armour and weaponry. In the clan game, it can also be used towards your buildings. When buying buildings or armory, the gold is always taken from your treasury first so think carefully if you want some armour but need to save for a building at the same time. It WILL come from your treasury first in both cases.

General & Account Questions

What is termed cheating?
Having more than one account. Someone spending your gold for you. Scripting. Password Sharing. This link shows the rules and what is termed cheating.

Why has my game account frozen? I’m not getting any gold or AP!
You are probably on 999APs. That is the maximum amount of APs a person can hold, once you are on that, you wont gain anything. If you are not, it may be that there are too many people playing from the same location, IP address or PC. There is a safe limit placed on the number of players in the same clan that play from the same place - this is due to people creating multiple accounts in the past.

Why does it say my account is locked?
If you have more than 4 people playing from the same computer, then it will lock your account, and probably the others as well. See the previous question for more information.

Why did I get reset? What happened to my stats?
If you were on PvP, you probably hit 3000 tics and your game reset. In the clan game, the round may have ended or you may have passed level 40 without joining a clan. If you are certain that those things didnt happen, contact Psyched or Toebin and tell them your info on your account, such as account name, display name, race, etc, and they will look into it for you.

My old email doesn’t work any more and I have a new one. Who do I tell?
You should contact Psyched or Toebin via PM (Personal Message) on the forum or LoL mail in game.

I can’t/didn’t get the bonus 2 ap. Why not?
If you play on the same computer as someone else and they got the bonus 2 APs, then you can't. Sometimes the vote site (which is external and not part of LoL) is a little hiccupy and doesn't always provide them. You could try to get them from another computer or site if you are able.

I didn’t get a reset/vacation mode code.
Check your spam folder or junk mail. Also, make sure your email is the right email address. Go to Edit Account on the left side of the game screen and look at the top, it should be the third one down and if its not correct, contact Psyched or Toebin via PM or LoL mail and have them change it.

How do I reset? I got a bad start.
If you are still lvl 0 then go to Edit Account on the left of your screen, go to reset, and have the reset code email to your valid email address. The input the code and make sure there are no spaces in the end and then hit reset, then pick a race and start again. You can reset a maximum of 3 times. Use your resets wisely.

How can I get rid of banners and adverts?
Donating will remove both of these things and it doesn't cost very much. Also, you can use Firefox and install the No Script add-on and untrust all the popups.

How can I get rid of banners and adverts without paying?
Firefox with No Script add-on or support LoL and turn off banners everyday. I would go with the first one.

What do I get for donating?
You get no Validation code, even after lvl 5. Also you get banners turned off if you dont have Firefox. In your signature on the forum, you'll receive a treasure chest indicating that you've donated to the running of the game.

Do I need to download anything to play Lords of Legend?
Nope, just register and start playing.

What’s the difference between clan & PVP?
In the PVP game there are no clans. Each player is pitted against all others - it's a free for all environment. The treasury is only used for armoury in the PVP version and buildings can only be bought from gold on hand as opposed to the clan version where treasury gold can assist with both armoury and weapons. The clan game's morale feature is also not present in the PVP.
