![]() Case As New ![]() |
The case started out as a bland aluminium instrument case. Conveniently it came in some protective blue plastic which helped with all the drilling and marking out that had to be done. As the system has no fans, as much air as possible must be able to circulate. For this I drilled numerous holes over the areas which radiated heat; the memory, cpu, north/south bridges and power supply. I then used a countersink bit to smooth the edges. (both front and back edges) |
After much drilling, countersinking and filing, this was the bare case. There are two big areas cut-out for the CPU and Northbridge heat sinks and a large section removed on the right hand edge for the main heat sink. I used the motherboard port mount and a guide for the rear ports by clamping it to the case and drawing around the slots with a thin marker. The whole case was then sanded with wet and dry, all the holes, slots etc.

I decided to get the case powder coated as this finish is much tougher than spraying. I took it down to a local firm who sprayed and baked it for a tenner! The finish is a very high gloss blue, exactly what I wanted.
