Season 3

S is where we have our first appearance of the Outer Senshi (excluding Pluto, who was in R), Sailors Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Uranus and Neptune are searching for the mysterious three Talismen that must be combined to create the Holy Grail, which will call forth the Messiah to save the world from the Death Busters (whew!). The only problem is the Talismen are contained within the pure heart crystals of three people, three people who must be sacrificed. Very bad. :(

Chibi-Usa (Rini) returns to the twentieth century in order to train to be a better soldier. She assumes the guise of Sailor Chibimoon. She is lonely and friendless until she meets equally lonely and friendless Tomoe Hotaru (Hotaru Tomoe), a sickly little girl who has the mysterious power to heal.

Hotaru goes to the same exclusive private school, Mugen Academy, as Haruka (Amara) and Michiru (Michelle), Sailors Uranus and Neptune. The latter are there investigating because some strange occurances have originated at the school.

The Witches Five are sent forth by Professor Tomoe, Hotaru's very own father gone bad, in order to retrieve heart crystals. They need crystals so that they can get the Holy Grail and awaken Mistress Nine to call forth Master Pharoah Ninety, their big bad guy.

Tomoe makes the bad-father-of-the-year choice of allowing Mistress Nine, a major baddie, to take over Hotaru's body. Pluto appears to lead the other two to their Talismen, and the Holy Grail is called forth. Uranus and Neptune want to kill Hotaru, who is really Sailor Saturn, but Sailor Moon refuses.

Hotaru, under Mistress Nine's influence, takes Chibi-Usa's heart crystal. Sailors Moon, Neptune and Uranus are all at the Mugan building trying to fight Mistress Nine. Sailor Moon gives her the Grail, and she calls forth Pharoah Ninety. He returns the favor by hitting her with a blast; she reverts to Saturn/Hotaru, then back to Mistress Nine. Suddenly the symbol of Saturn appears on her forehead, and she disappears. Hotaru returns Chibi-Usa's heart crystal and then returns to the Mugen building. She tells Sailor Moon she's going to sacrifice herself in order to stop Pharoah Ninety and steps into the machine used to summon him. The Senshi loan Sailor Moon their power, her pure heart crystal helps her power up into Super Sailor Moon, and she follows Sailor Saturn. The machine disappears.

Later, Chibi-Usa is missing Hotaru and wondering what happened to her. She sees Michiru with a baby, and later she realizes that it is Hotaru, reborn. Haruka and Michiru, meanwhile, find the Inner Senshi and Usagi at the ruins of the Mugen Academy. They challenge Usagi, saying she did wrong to protect Hotaru, and attack her in her Super Sailor Moon form. She beats them, though, and they compliment her and accept her as their Princess and future Queen before driving off into the sunset.
