The Cutest Critters of Anime

Aren't these cuties the absolute limit? They are SOOO CUTE! I was on the verge of naming this site "anime pets" or something, but I thought it too insulting for these intelligent (if only slightly articulate) characters to be termed "pets."

If you came in through the Cabbit Madness Webring above, please take the time to check out the rest of The Cutest Critters of Anime.

As in my other pages, I put up the Critters alphabetically--I refuse to show any favoritism in placement. The images here were stolen from other sites (you WILL be credited) and chopped up/enhanced/resized as I saw fit to emphasize the Critters. If you've any violent objections, feel free to contact me and if you've found a new Critter for this page, please, please fill up my form! I need all the help I can get.

The Swiss Army robot--he's got a litlle of everything!
Giru
from the series Dragonball GT

Android 18 suggested this little robot and scanned a picture of Giru for me. While I once said that Anime Critters are usually fuzzy-and-cute, I make an exception for him. In fact, for a while there (at the height of my dislike for Pan) I was watching GT for the little robot that ate the Dragon Radar. Giru certainly has some surprises up his sleeve--you could argue that he is a floating pocket universe, considering how many gizmos he has...

Ryo-ohki's one true love-I guess like calls to like!
Ken-Ohki
from the OAV Tenchi Muyo!

Li'l Washu says:
...like Ryo-Ohki, he's cabbit--part cat, part rabbit. He belongs to the bounty hunter Nagi, and since this guy and Ryouko are kinda like arch rivals, they aren't too happy when they discover that Ken-Ohki and Ryo-Ohki are in love. (They're so cute together!) Ken-Ohki always wears a little blue collar and is a very well-mannered little gentleman...instead of going 'Meow!' he goes 'Cheow!' all the time...

I'll say. L'il Washu not only corrected some of my more glaring errors (like referring to Ryo-Ohki in the masculine), but also donated the picture. Thanks a lot!

A multi-faceted creature indeed!
Ryo-Ohki
from the OAV Tenchi Muyo!

It's a spaceship! No, a floating crystal! No--a rabbit (the ears, don'tcha know). Wait! She's a cat; the meowing is a dead giveaway. Actually, I've lost count as to how many Ryo-ohkis there are out there. They're plenty cute, though!

Indeed, there's lots more to Ryo-ohki than meets the eye. This insatiable "cabbit" (I'll borrow the invention of others) has given Tenchi some uncomfortable moments, as she eats the Masakis out of house and home--okay, okay, carrots.

I can't believe she changes from spaceship to multiple crystals and back so readily. Is that all the same Ryo-ohki, or are there hundreds of self-motivating spaceships out there? In whatever form she's in though, Ryo-ohki is CUTE. Even her spaceship design is great!

I couldn't NOT put him in, now could I? He's just so cuuuute!
Teto
from the movie Nausicaa

Okay, so its not quite a creature--it doesn't seem to make any sounds that demonstrate its intelligence (the way the monosyllabically voluble Mokona or Ryo-Ohki does, for example) and doesn't do anything, really. However (just to illustrate how arbitrary the selection process in Mre-Mre Land is) we never even considered not including this little guy. Besides, I'm a sucker for anything with green eyes, heheheheheh...

I think it was the way he apologetically licked Nausicaa's hand after biting her. It showed he had spirit, as well as character. It's amazing how he could stay on her shoulder even in the middle of a flight. This tiger-stripped companion is pretty handy in a fight too...and surprise surprise! He even makes a cameo appearance in another Miyazaki favorite Laputa: Castle in the Sky, with the gardener robot.

Ura takes usefulness to a whole new level
Ura
from the OAV El Hazard

She breaks the number one rule--Ura can speak VERY well, with as large a vocabulary as any other character, but she filled the post of a Critter in El Hazard, so I put her here.

This adorable cat is actually an attacker's nightmare. She can protect whomever she chooses from practically everything, and has saved Makoto from plunging to his doom a couple of times. When it came down to a choice between Makoto and the Princess, she decided to stick it out with Makoto. A truly loyal and hardworking critter, without whom Makoto would have been toast 30 minutes into the OAV.
