With the lag
just through the body (small grey dot) you can lightly replace
the head in the correct position. Push down to mark the location
(small grey dot on head). Drill the correct sized hole in the
head to receive the lag. Now glue the head to the body and screw
the lag in to pull it into place.

Make your keel the length,
depth and style that you prefer. Mine are just shorter than the
body around 2" deep.
Drill countersunk holes and a hole
to attach the line to.
Drill two holes
(1/2" to 5/8" for 1" stock) balanced on center
jut short of the bottom to receive molten lead for ballast.
