Day 12 - Monday, May 20, 2002
Terrible weather!!!! Roaring winds and driving rain are beating down on the patio of our room. The room we have is in a separate building from the dining room, so we have to race through the rain to have breakfast. Deirdre serves the breakfast before she heads into Kenmare to handle her other duties as an MD. I had a bowl of porridge with breakfast and it was delicious. Whoda thunkit?
This will be a really exciting day as we head
into Kenmare to do some laundry. Oh boy!!! It was going to take 2 days for the
launderette to do the work, so we did it ourselves. Felicity
didn't want to walk around much
because she had come down with my cold so she chased me out and I walked around
town
shopping.
I came back and helped with all the folding, we grabbed a bite of lunch and
headed back to the room. Felicity's cold was pretty bad and she decided she
wanted to take a nap, so I went for a walk with Monte and Henry, the resident
dogs. They led me up the trail and we sat out and enjoyed the view out to the
water. These are two incredibly energetic dogs and they seemed to love giving me
a tour. The weather had improved drastically, so, though windy, it was a lot
more pleasant than the morning. Finally I headed back to the room.
Our room had a private patio, so I sat out on it and waited
for Felicity to wake up. When she did, we decided
it was about time for dinner, so we headed back in to Kenmare. This time we ate
at the Wander Inn and had the "early bird" dinner. It is served from
6-8 and was more food than anyone should expect to get for €15. Felicity had a
mound of potatoes that could have fed us for a couple of days. The food was
really terrific. The waitress seemed to be the only one working the restaurant
and bar that evening and somehow seemed to manage. This was a great place to
eat.
The evening drive was up the south Ring of Kerry coast. This turned out to be a great time to drive it as we did it without seeing a single tour bus. Oh just another beautiful coastal drive to end our day.
