Praetor Valleh d'awaam Ganduze

"An ImagiNation"

Welcome to Ferratu soil. This embassy is open to all, as you have passed through with neither arms nor ill will. Ours is a culture born from blood, forged in underground rock, and wielded upon an untamed, but gracious, fatherland. We've come far, and are glad to share our successes, and failures, with you.

A little about Us
Ferrata is a land of vast contrasts, and in many ways it seems like several different countries all in one. To the north are the great isles of Scios, treated by both tropical and arctic winds. Reaching like a bent finger in the east - from north to south - are the forbidding interior Krown Mountains, which still house the xenophobic tribesmen of the forbidden 10th House. To the southeast are great wadis and dry riverbeds, pockmarked by an ancient system of underground catacombs we call the "Udias". The southern lands of L'Sayda are replete with tube wells via Udias which provide water for villages and the goju palm groves far inland. To the west are the spicy-sweet smelling Amora incense gardens. And in the center are the lands of Solis, "The Cradle of Fiarria", with green tropical dunes swept by monsoon rains and vast grasslands that house brilliant lightglow butterflies.

Four distinct seasons offer ever changing lifestyles for Ferratuus, especially those living in the Cradle: Summers are for boating, hiking, and sports; Fall is for harvesting, fairs and hunting; Winter is for skiing, trybal celebrations and religious devotion; Spring is for new life, fishing and planting.....to name a few....

Our nations abound with myths and fables, and a culture as rich as its host's resources. We practice philosophies taught to us by the Horns d'Udias, who, through their actions, demonstrated that precision and teamwork equal success...and that an unbeatable war lord can be slain by a monk's last gesture.

Flags full of shields, and some links besides
We are, so surmised, the only nation without official contemporary "flags", having operated over the past six centuries using "shields" instead. Shields represent the trybe of a Ferratu, and his or her occupation and provynce of origin.

For clarity, let Us state that some of the terms described herein are still displayed in our native Ferhartu language, a uniform list of terms and descriptive words that all Nine Trybes recognize and use. Standard English has been adopted for the convenience of the curious. Some terms may slip by, however, and Our linguists are ready to remedy any errors.

Politics and branches of power
While the origins of our government hierarchy are of a military nature, the country is a democratic one. Two bodies of government, the March Caucus and Guild of Representatives, represent both the people and His interests. No one person can thrust the nation into war, although He may issue a call to arms if He feels this is best for Ferrata and has national support.

There are nine tiers of government that handle the day-to-day affairs of the people:
  • GovOps - coordinates inter-tier functions, handles basic municipal concerns
  • Evintent - a subtier under GovOps that enforces the laws of Ferrata
  • History - also a sub-tier under GovOps, handles the archiving and recording of pivotal Ferratu history
  • SciTech - responsible for further advancement of science, technology, and information acquisition
  • EDIC - Economic Development, Industry, and Commerce (imports and exports)
  • ArmSec - the armed service and military branch of Ferratu, home of the deadly "Vojak" battle soldier
  • Worship - dedicated to the search for inner peace and awareness of self.
  • EduHelth - provides above standard education for Ferratu youths, and health care for all
  • RecArt - the "fun" side of Ferrata, in charge of all recreation, art, entertainment, and sports

While each tier is operated by a specific trybe, all representatives gather in the capital city of Solstyce, as seen awash in lights for the Bay during the New Year celebration in 296.
