Painting |
For the track surface, the MDF
was primed with one coat of sealer
followed by two coats of latex
2 part epoxy.
The 2 part epoxy paint was obtained
from the local Sherwin-Williams
store - the epoxy paint (part
A) comes white and may be tinted
to any color. Two types of epoxy
catalyst (part B) were available
- gloss finish and satin finish.
We ended up selecting black with
the satin finish.
The legs and side boards were
painted with latex based enamel.

The primer and 2 part epoxy.
One coat of primer - I forgot
to have the primer tinted grey,
but I went ahead and used it as
white.
One coat of epoxy paint.
Two coats of epoxy on the surface,
two coats of latex on the side
boards.
The legs were painted with one
coat of primer and two coats of
latex.
Ready for braid.

- The epoxy is mixed at a
ratio of 4 to 1.
- A short nap enamel roller
cover was used on all the
surfaces.
- A foam "corner roller"
was used where the track surface
met the crash wall, this did
not leave the "brushed"
finish which would have been
apparent if a paint brush
was used.
- Between each coat, the MDF
was lightly sanded with 220
grit sand paper.
- About 2/3 of a gallon of
epoxy paint was required to
complete 2 coats on the track
surface.
- Some of the white primer
is visible in the slots -
hopefully, that will wear
off.
