Constructing the Track - Lane Striping

Painting the stripes

The lane stripes were painted using a striping roller and "1 Shot Sign Painter's Enamel".

The striping roller was modified by soldering a piece of brass to the guide wire; the brass plate was placed in the slot to guide the tool. A serated roller applied the paint from a glass bottle via gravity feed.

The color sequence of red, white, blue, yellow was used - this seemed to be the standard for 4 lane H.O. tracks as well as many 4 lane 1/24 tracks.

The lower sections of the track had been assembled prior to striping.

  • The stripe width was 3/16".
  • About 1 oz. of paint per lane was required.
  • As long as the paint roller was kept flat on the surface, only one pass was required. A second pass was applied to spaces where the roller skipped.
