Dramatis Personae

Here we present biographical and character descriptions of the main family members who appear in the letters.  Inevitably, since the letters run between members of the Slade family, most of this section refers to people having the Slade name.  Charlotte Slade had been a Lousley before her marriage.  The Slade children of Henry and Charlotte are presented in order of age below.  The Lousleys came from the neighbouring village of Blewbury.

The main family of Aston Tirrold was the Fullers, bastions of Dissension.  This was a vast and highly intermarried family, scions of which reached far up into higher social levels.  For the purposes of following the letters, we really need to know about the the four Fullers included here, particularly 'Welly' and Mrs Fuller, the unfortunate and unbalanced widow.
