Language Sprache In order to tell a computer what to do, we have to use a language it understands.
 
Laptop computer Tragbarer Computer A portable microcomputer that has it's own built in monitor and keyboard.

Light emitting diode Led-lampe A small coloured device that emits light like a bulb, it is normally used as an indicator lamp.  ( L.E.D.)
 
Light guide Lichtleiter-kabel Glass or perspex fibre used to transfer optical signals.  Light enters at one side and is internally reflected along the fibre optic.
 
Light pen Laser Stift A  pen that allows the user to draw change and move sections  of pictures by simply moving it across the screen of the graphical display unit.
 
Line number Zeilennummer A number that tells the computer that what follows is part of a program.
 
Line printer Nadeldrucker A cylinder which has rows of characters, all the A's are printed first, the cylinder turns, then the B's and so on.
 
Liquid crystal display LCD-Monitor A liquid whose molecules can be made to line up, making it look darker when electric current is applied.
 
List Liste The setting out, on screen of the program statements in number order.
 
Load Laden The reading of the program statements or data from backing store into the appropriate parts of the computer memory.
 
Location Festplatte The places in computer that are able to store data.
 
Local area network LAN-Netwerk A cable system connecting several microcomputers for the speedy exchange of data and the sharing of peripherals like scanners and printers.
 
Logic circuit Logik Produktion Basic building blocks of digital electronics commonly referred to as a gate, AND, OR, NAND and NOR are all examples of logic circuits and it is these that make up the circuits on a silicon chip.

A powerful high level language developed to allow the exploration of ideas on how to use a computer.  It is widely used in education.
 
Loop Schlinge A set of program instructions that are repeated from the beginning, just as a loop of thread comes back to where it started, until a certain condition is satisfied.
 
Low-level language Tiefebenesprache A computer language which is similar to and easily converted into machine code.
 
Low resolution Tiefer Entschluß Poor definition of characters or graphics which usually occurs when there are fewer than 300 pixels across the screen width.
