Adolescent Adulthood: Having problems getting a date? Too shy to ask the person you fancy out on a date?
Well, if you're one of those confused individuals on the cusp of adulthood desperately in need of tips on such important matters as dating, flirting, dumping and kissing, you should find a lot to get you going here.
You might want to start by reading 'What Is Love?', an essay that explains a subject that some believe is the be-all and end-all of life.
The 'Flirting Manual', 'Dating Guide' and 'Dumping Tutorial' are also useful, as is the step-by-step lesson on kissing ('Kissing Explained').
A word of caution, though: If you're a 'dumpee', you should think hard about some of the advice dished out here.
Bulfinch's Mythology - The Age of Fable: Fascinated by the wild and scandalous stories of ancient Greek
and Roman gods and goddesses? Wanna read about theexploits of Hercules, 'The Adventures of Ulysses' and tales of 'The Trojan War' and 'The Fall of Troy'?
Then this site will be a godsend. Not only does it feature the contents of Thomas Bulfinch's celebrated book in their entirety; it also has some great black
and white illustrations and a gradually increasing collection of related links.
There's a section of 'Recommended Books', and the links to 'The Age of Chivalry or Legend of King Arthur' and 'Legends of Charlemagne' are must-click-ons.
Other useful links include 'Photos' and 'Ancient Greek (Hellenic) Links'.
A Coleridge Companion: If you're
a Coleridge freak like me, you'd love this home page that offers "the entire text" of John Spencer Hill's book A Coleridge Companion for free.
And the blurb's claim, that it "provides a thorough yet highly readable distillation of Coleridge scholarship on such works as The Ancient Mariner, Kubla Khan and the Biographia Literaria", is pretty accurate.
More importantly, it should appeal to poetry lovers discovering the work of Samuel Taylor Coleridge for the first time.
Sections neatly hyperlinked include 'The Conversation Poems', 'Kubla Khan', 'The Ancient
Mariner', 'Dejection: An Ode' and 'Biographia Literaria'.
The 18 accompanying plate featured in the book are also reproduced here.
Housenet: If you're
looking for ideas on making improvements to your home and garden, you should check out this US site.
It'll guide you through everything from adding "spunk to your ho-hum decor with textured walls" to "Watering a lawn and garden".
If you believe in the DIY ethic, you'll enjoy such 'On Tap' features as 'Welcome Wagon', 'Woodworking buffs' and 'Weekend @ Home'.
There's a message board where you can submit questions or suggestions on various issues, and there's topic box to take you directly to the feature you're looking for.
It's an easy site to access and navigate, and the content is updated regularly.
react.com: A site "where teens make news", react.com offers young people advice on dealing with all kinds of problems at school and at home.
But it also provides plenty of gossipy entertainment news and tons of online games.
The current issue has a tribute to Madonna and a piece titled 'Got a Crush?' that deals with the topic of secret admiration.
The 'Ask Anything', 'What's Your Problem?' and 'Embarrassing Moments' sections give surfers a chance to get interactive, and 'The Style Council' offers advice on what to wear.
The quality of the writing is somewhat inconsistent but basically the tone of most of the pieces reflects teenage angst faithfully.
Trashed: With all the
buzz surrounding Ecstasy and other recreational drugs, a site that offers information on the harmful effects of drugs would be really useful.
And this home page, put together by the British Health Education Authority, deals with the risks involved with various types of drug and how the law treats drug crimes.
Sections like 'Origins', 'Effects', 'The Law', 'Composition', 'Emergency' and 'Risks' present the facts without prejudgment or any prettifying, but at the same time, there's an implicit message that drugs are bad (or BAD... you decide!).
It's a rather dry and dull site but there's no denying the importance of the information posted here.
