Two types of homes that are most common are one floor homes, which I call Hedge Houses, or two story condos, which I call Quill Condos.  But no matter what type of house your hog is going to be living in, remember to include in all of these:

1.
bedding - Carefresh is the best that I have used.  It is made out of materials that will not harm a hedgehog in any way, and is great for them to burrow in!  Another kind of bedding is just using cut pieces of vellux blanket over newspaper.  I think the newspaper without print would be the best to use (this can be found at moving stores like Public Storage).  Vellux by itself is very popular, as well.  Once the pieces of blanket get dirty, toss them in the wash and reuse them!  Pine is also very widely used.  Some messy and tough to clean floor coverings are carpet, rubber mats, and grass (not many people use these because they are tough to clean or else take a lot of time; but they're all fine and safe to use.)  NOTE:  Cedar is bad for their resperatory systems - DO NOT USE!  Corn cob bedding has been known to get stuck in their "private places," it is not suggested.

2.
food dish - because they like to get in wherever their little bodies can sqeeze, make sure this won't tip over.  Either have it attached to the side of the cage or make it heavy enough that they will not push it over.
3.
water dish or water bottle - the bottle is easier to use because it can't get bedding inside of it, unlike the dish can.  It may take some time to get a hog used to this if they have always used a dish.  The easiest way to do this is, place a water bottle above the water dish.  This will let the hog know the bottle has water.  Everynight, put less and less water in the dish so he has to drink from the bottle.  In no time at all, your hedgie will be off the dish and using just the bottle!
4.
house or blanket - hogs like to sleep in kleenex boxes, shoe boxes, pigloos, washcloths, vellux blankets, and anything where they can "get away" and feel protected.  Use your imagination!
5.
wheel - every hedgie must must MUST have a wheel.  This is how they get most of their much needed exercise and work off their energy.  Just make sure to clean these often, becaue they will get poopie!
6.
toys - besides wheels, hedgies must have another way to have fun!  Try cat toys, toilet paper tubes (make a slit with some scissors on each side so they can slide their heads out when they need to), and anything a hog can push or dig around.
Don't have the money or time to look for a cage?  Or are you just puzzled as to which cage to buy?  Well, here is an inexpensive way to build a luxury condo for your hedgie!  Only takes less than an hour and about $30!
Can't find a suitable wheel?  Does the one you have constantly make noise or even hurt your poor hog?  Try this site, Hedgehogwheels.com,  for the best wheels around!  Noiseless, safe, and practically unbreakable by hogs, these wheels are A1 with many hedgie owners.  Stylish colors to choose from, too!
Important Notes About Cleaning Houses, Condos and Accessories:

*make sure you change them at least once a week

*if your hedgie uses a litter pan, clean the litter pan about once or twice a week, and the rest of their home once every two weeks, unless needed

*vellux blankets will probably have to be washed twice a week, depending on if your hog is litter trained

*if you give your hogs tp tubes, throw them away when they get poopie

*clean the wheel once a day (if poopie) in warm soapy water
