Part 3: Botswana and Namibia

Mike pushed into south-western Africa to send us this on October the 8th

Hi,
Since Bulawayo I've been to Victoria Falls, where I went white water rafting and riverboarding, microlighting above the falls, swimming above the falls (1m from edge, no bullsh*t, I've got photos!). From there I went to Chobe Natioal Park, Botswanna and saw hundreds of elephant (got one to charge at our vehicle!) and some lion, hippos and crocs. From there we went to the Okovango Delta, which was OK, but it turned out that our polers (guides) ripped us off and took us to the wrong part of the Delta for our three day trip. Although we tracked elephant and lion on foot we didn't get what we paid US$130 for. When we got back to the truck we found out that it had been robbed! I only had a couple of T-shirts nicked and a few items broken, but some people had all their stuff taken, including 10 weeks worth of used camera film.
From there we headed into Namibia and straight into Etosha N.P. for 3 days, which was excellent. Loads of game viewing, including 4 black rhino (very rare) and black faced impala (also very rare). Then onto a cheethah farm which looks after cheetahs that would have otherwise been shot by farmers. He had 14 wild, 3 tame and one baby cheetha. After that we stopped at the petrified forest (name better than the place) on the way to the Skeleton Coast (again, name better than place) and went swimming (very cold). I'm now in Swokopmund and will be going quad-biking around some of the worlds largest sand dunes tomorrow!

Mike had progressed through Southern Namibia to enter South Africa by October 18th

Well I'm now in Cape Town and my overland tour finishes today, but I still have over a week in South Africa. Since Skakopmund I have been to the diamond ghost town and Fish River Canyon, where I hiked to the bottom, swam, and hiked out. It is said to be only second in size to the Grand Canyon, USA. After that we went to Ai-Ais and relaxed in the hot springs. From there we entered South Africa and came to Cape Town via more hot springs and a winery!!!
Cheers,
Mike
