On February 25th Mike sent us a guide to his time in Thailand.
...I've been up to so much, its hard to know where to start.
I guess Bangkok.
After returning to Bangkok for the New Year, we headed down to Khao
Lak, on the west coast. From here we planned to go diving in the
Similan Islands, but there was a fuck up and we got left behind on
the mainland. We decided to head for Phuket (pronouced poo-get not
fuckit), we heard it was quite popular with British tourists. We
soon found out why. It was just like a tacky Spanish resort, strip
bars and prostitutes included! We decide to try a dive here as
well, and so went with a company run by Europeans, rather than
Thais. We were picked up on time (German effiency), but we had a
crap dive because the dive master thought that our inexperience
would not be a problem on the advanced site we were diving. It was
a problem. The bloke who sold us the dive just lied to us. We
decided to keep moving down the coast and ended up in a little town
(village) called Ao Nang (nr. Krabi). This town was excellent. From
here we went snorkeling, diving (where we saw leopard sharks,
dolphins, turtle, manta rays) and relaxing on the beach. Whilst I
went on a 3 day diving trip Kerry tried her hand at rock climbing
and went on a trip to James Bond Island (Man with the Golden Gun). My
diving trip took me via Maya Bay, where 'The Beach' was filmed. We
also took a trip to Phi Phi Island. Our visas eventually ran out, so
we had to leave, and head to Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia.
Take care,
