Learn how to tat!
Page #1 - Prepare the shuttle
First things first, prepare your shuttles. Or if you only have one shuttle, prepare the one. You will be tatting with a shuttle and "a second thread". This "thread" can be left on the ball or wound onto a ssecond shuttle, as I have done here.
Hitch on to the shuttle & wind |
Take the end of the thread and fold it over like this. |
 |
Put your fingers through like this |
 |
And flip it inside out... |
 |
You have made half of a hitch knot. |
 |
Put it around the shuttle (or bobbin if you are using that type of shuttle) and tighten the knot. |
 |
Continue winding the thread around the shuttle. However much thread you wish for now, about a yard or 2, just not so much that it overflows from the sides of the shuttle. Cut the thread from the ball.
Tip - If you were going to tat a one-color, two-shuttle project, do NOT cut the thread from the ball. At this point you would pull out a length of thread from the
ball and wind it around your second shuttle. This is called the "Continuous Thread Method" of winding 2 shuttles. |
