Still holding the first half of the doublestitch in "the pinch", allow the light thread coming off the shuttle to simply hang down. |
Pass the shuttle OVER the dark thread on your hand. |
Back the shuttle up, THROUGH or UNDERNEATH the dark thread on your hand, and THROUGH the loop created by the light thread hanging down. |
Pull the light-threaded shuttle away, taking up the slack. |
Again, you can see the the light "shuttle thread" is wrapped around the dark "hand thread". Flip the threads by loosening the tension on your hand thread while pulling the light shuttle thread tight. |
Loosen your left hand and pull the shuttle thread tight....FLIP! |
Now you can see that the dark "hand thread" is wrapped around
the light "shuttle thread". |
Snug this second half of the stitch right up next to the first half. Now the knot is complete, and it will not come undone.
To be certain that you properly flipped the knot, pinch the doublestitch that you have just made, and pull on the stitch, you should feel that it slides a bit on the shuttle
thread, until it is stopped by the initial overhand knot. Do this little check after each stitch while you are learning! |
