Learn how to tat!
Page #5 - Add a picot
Picots are really just spaces between double stitches, and they are what creates the laciness of tatting. They Do nOT count as a stitch!
Here I have done a chain 5 double stitches, all right next to eachother. |
 |
Do the first half of the double stitch, flipping the knot as usual, but do not snug it up to the previous stich. Leave about a centimeter, or a half an inch between this first half and the previous doublestitch. Hold it in the pinch so it does not slide out of position. |
 |
Do the second half of the double stitch, flipping the knot, and snug this second half up to the first half. Now the stitch will not close up the picot. |
 |
Slide the completed double stitch next to the 5 previous stitches, and you will see the little loopy picot pop up from the chain. This double stitch that formed the picot, counts as a stitch! |
 |
Here I have done 4 more double stitches. The notation for tatting this chain would be:
CH 5ds, p, 5ds. - or- CH 5-5
You see that the picot is not counted as a stitch, but rather as a space between stitches. |
