Ball GT - The TV Animation |
Dragon Ball GT is the
continuation of the Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z TV series, based on the manga made by Akira
Toryama. But Akira wrote only till DBZ. But, when DBZ finished, most of the viewers became
angry and thirsty for more Dragon Ball. Also, shops started to lose money as Dragon Ball
lost audience. So, Dragon Ball GT was created, with Toryama only as an artistic advisor,
and the scriptwriters at Toei Studios as the ones generating the actual story.
The DBZ long combats lovers didn't like the Dragon Ball GT show. This time,
Dragon Ball is targeted to the younger audience. Like the expected, Dragon Ball GT had
success. Since the authors wanted to return to humor that characterized the original
Dragon Ball, the starting episodes had a low number of action and more development for the
characters, this made the DBZ loves hate this new series.
But as the story goes in front, the combats become to become longer and
longer with new and stronger enemies. This naturally caught the attention of the DBZ
action fans. |
Dragon Ball GT's storyline
takes places 10 years after the end of DBZ and feature a trio of heroes : Son Gokuu (who
is now young again), Teenage Trunks and Pan, the daughter of Gohan and Videl, who is now a
teenager. The style of storytelling seems to have shifted back to adventure-comedy, like
the original DB series. "GT" is supposed to mean either "Grand Tour"
or "Gokuu-Trunks", but some call it, "Grand Touring" or "Galaxy
Touring".
For summaries I recommend reading those
of Curtis Hoffmann. Those of John Chennavasin and Tipatat Chennavasin are interesting too
and feature very good pictures.
Dragon Ball GT - My Opinion
If you haven't already seen the DBGT Episodes, I
advice you to read the "Dragon Ball GT Episodes Summaries"
- by Curtis Hoffmann". I already saw DBGT and I loved it! I think it's a bit sad that
Goku disapears in the final. All his family waiting and he doesn't show up. I couldn't
believe that Dragon Ball really really ended. I felt sad... DBGT is good. Not like DBZ
with big, really big fights. It's cool, funny like the original Dragon Ball, that spirit
that we loved in the start. On the other hand the story of the first episodes are rather
dull and uninteresting. Freeza and Cell coming back it is also great... Well, maybe is
better to show you in two parts. Here are they!
The starting episodes are a very nice beginning and are full of funny scene
that we wanted to see. Bringing Pilaf is not so bad and rather humorous, if you like the
early DB series. He is now very old, but STILL wants to conquer Earth. E acidently wished
Goku being brought back as a kid and once more, he wastes a wish, like the first episodes
of DB.
Goku is even more cute in his new
design. We thing that he would looks exactly like Goten was in the Majin Buu saga, but not
: he his even smaller. The character design of Pan is very nice too, she looks a bit like
her mother but likes adventures even more! It's great to see Trunks as the president of
Capsule corp, or the new haircuts of everybody.
Making SSJ4 Goku transformation, I may
say it's great. I liked it! Gokue becomes... big again! Spectacular is also SSJ4 Gogeta,
here in the backround. The final part is also new, they advance 100 years in the future!
You can read the last episode, wrote by Curtis Hoffmann HERE!
I consider the idea of the universe dragon ball to be
more or less good, but saying that "the earth will explode in one year if they are
not found again" is totally silly - they don't even give a reason for that. That's
all so go find the Dragon Balls!
The character design for some characters
is not so good in this future timeline, some are better, some are worse. The new haircut
and moustache of Vegeta looks very bad. They say that the Toei Scriptwriters wanted to
make like is now settled in Earth. But if we come back in time, we can remember that
Vegeta himself told in book 33 that the hair of the saiya-jin never change. Proof of this
is when he and Trunks were at the training room at Dende's Palace. When they came back.
Trunks had his air really big but Vegeta had the same look. When a saiya-jin hair is in
its normal shape, they don't grow.
The design of Trunks is not so good
either. He looked much better in the Cyborg/Cell era of DBZ. His new clothes are very ugly
too... It doesn't feels like Trunks is president of CC.
In May of 1997, the Dragon Ball GT Perfect File book hit the shelves in Japan. This
book describes all of the characters, planning, and world elements in detail, leading up
to the beginning of the Super #17 story arc. The character names that appear in
this guide have been corrected where necessary to correspond to the Perfect File.
More information about the DBGT universe can be found in the Dragon Ball GT Perfect File FAQ.
