CORY MANSION/DAY

RACHEL is looking at Amanda and Cameron's wedding pictures. CARL comes in.

CARL
Hello, darling. What are you doing?

RACHEL
I'm just looking at some pictures of Cameron and Amanda. Carl, she loved him so much.

CARL
I know.

RACHEL
With the killer still out there, none of us are safe.

CARL
I'm going to take care of that.

RACHEL
What do you mean?

CARL
I'm going to find whoever is behind all of this. No one is going to hurt this family anymore.

RACHEL
Carl, let the police handle it.

CARL
I tried that, and a police officer and a PI both lost their lives. It's in my hands now.

RACHEL
I hate it when you try to play the hero.

CARL
Rachel, you have to concentrate on Amanda right now. Don't worry about me. Worry about your daughter.

AMANDA comes in.

AMANDA
Her daughter doesn't need her to worry.

RACHEL
How are you feeling, honey?

AMANDA
I'm okay, Mom. And as soon as Carl helps me out, I'll be even better.

CARL
Helps you out?

AMANDA
I'm going to find Cameron's killer, so I need to know everything you know about your stalker.

RACHEL
No! Amanda, I want you to stay out of it.

CARL
I'm afraid I agree with your mother.

AMANDA
I don't care what you agree with. This is all your fault. The least you can do is help me.

RACHEL
Amanda.

AMANDA
Don't Mom! Don't defend him to me. He's the cause of everything bad that's happened to this family in years. No matter what happens, it always comes right back to Carl.

She glares at Carl as we:

VICKY'S HOSPITAL ROOM/SAME DAY

PAULINA sets the flowers down on the counter of Vicky's hospital room.

VICKY
Thank you so much. They're beautiful.

PAULINA
How are you feeling?

VICKY
Much better, thanks.

PAULINA
You gave Jake a good scare. Don't do that again.

VICKY
(Laughing)
Don't worry, I'll try not to.

JAKE comes in.

PAULINA
Speak of the devil.

JAKE
Hi, Paulina.

VICKY
Jake, what's wrong?

JAKE
Vick, I have some bad news.

VICKY
What is it? The kids?

JAKE
No, no, the kids are fine. Cameron and Toni were killed in the explosion.

VICKY
What? (Turns to Paulina). Did you know this?

PAULINA
Yeah, I didn't want to upset you.

VICKY
Oh God, Jake, how's Chris? And Amanda?

JAKE
I haven't talked to Amanda, but I know that she was released. Chris is devastated. In fact, are you going to be okay? I want to go see him.

VICKY
Yes, of course, go.

PAULINA
I'll stay with her.

JAKE
Thanks, Paulina.

JAKE leaves.

VICKY
Poor Etta Mae. I have to go see her.

VICKY tries to get up. PAULINA gently pushes her back down.

PAULINA
You're not going anywhere.

VICKY
One of my best friends in the whole world just lost a daughter.

PAULINA
I know and as soon as the doctor releases you, you can go be with her. Right now you need to concentrate on yourself and those babies.

VICKY
I can't believe it. How could this have happened?

PAULINA
Vicky, Joe says the bomb was intended for Carl.

VICKY
Carl? Who would want to kill Carl?

PAULINA
Carl has a lot of enemies.

VICKY
But enemies who would kill him? Paulina, this doesn't make any sense. Why were Cameron and Toni at Cory?

PAULINA
I don't know, sweetie. There are a lot of questions right now and, unfortunately, not a lot of answers.

Paulina smiles wryly at Vicky, as we:

LUCKY LADY/DAY

ETTA MAE is at the counter, looking over scattered pictures with CHRIS. KC is at a table, alone and not moving. She's staring down at the table, and she seems to be trying not to cry.

ETTA MAE
(showing a picture to Chris)
This is Toni when she was five...she wouldn't let go of that wagon except to go to school and to go to sleep.

CHRIS
Possessive even then?

ETTA MAE
(smiling)
Very possessive. She wouldn't even let her brothers near it unless they promised to give her a ride in it. (She looks over at KC) KC, baby, do you want to help us choose some pictures for Toni's memorial service?

KC shakes her head and keeps staring at the table. Etta Mae sighs and takes more pictures out.

ETTA MAE
Toni at her baptism. She hated the fact that she had to get ducked underwater and mess up her hair---

She stops talking a moment as the door begins to open, then calls out.

ETTA MAE(cont'd)
I'm sorry, we're closed for a death in the family.

JUDY BURRELL enters the room, followed by two men, DANIEL and KEITH BURRELL.

JUDY
Mama, it's us.

Etta Mae moves from behind the counter, her arms open wide and she and Judy fall into an embrace. KC stands up, and wordlessly, Daniel hugs her tightly. As he lets go of her, she hugs Keith. As Etta Mae and Judy let go of each other, Etta Mae reaches out and embraces Daniel and Keith. Judy looks at KC, who stares back with tears in her eyes.

JUDY
(holding out her arms)
Come here, kiddo.

KC practically throws herself into Judy's arms and Judy holds her tightly.

JUDY (cont'd)
I know, kiddo.

As they all finish hugging one another, the room falls silent for a minute as no one knows what to say. Finally, Etta Mae reaches out for Chris.

ETTA MAE
Judy, Keith, Daniel, there's someone I want you to meet. This is Chris Madison. Toni's fiancé.

Judy hugs him and he shakes hands with Keith and Daniel.

JUDY
It's wonderful to finally meet you, Chris. Toni raved about you.

CHRIS
(in a low voice, as though he's struggling to speak)
Thanks...I'm just sorry we're meeting this way, instead of at our wedding. Toni was looking forward to the day when we were all a family.

DANIEL
Our sister loved you. That makes you a part of this family for the rest of your life.

ETTA MAE
And we mean that, Chris. You'll always have us.

CHRIS
That really means a lot to me. You don't know how much.

The door opens again, and this time, FELICIA walks in. She sees Judy and smiles gently at her.

JUDY
Felicia Gallant. There's a face I haven't seen in a long, long time.

FELICIA
Judy Burrell. I can't believe you're back in Bay City. (They embrace, and Felicia turns to Etta Mae, taking her hands.) I'm so sorry about Toni...for all of you.

ETTA MAE
Thank you, Felicia.

FELICIA
The memorial service is this afternoon?

ETTA MAE
(nodding)
Carl's generously offered to take care of the expenses. He didn't have to, but he said he wanted to do it. It's going to be a joint service for Toni and Cameron. It seems a little unusual, but we're having a private family service afterwards.

Judy moves Felicia away from the others so that they can talk.

JUDY
How have you been, Felicia? Keeping up with your meetings?

FELICIA
Of course I have been. Has Minneapolis been good to you?

JUDY
I love it there. And I love my work.

FELICIA
It's what you were meant to do. But we miss you here, Judy.

JUDY
I miss everyone, especially my family. I worry about what will happen with KC when we leave again.

FELICIA
She's taking it pretty hard?

JUDY
(nodding)
Yeah, she is. She's just barely a kid. And she and Toni were close.
When our father died, she closed herself off, wouldn't talk to anyone about it. She's doing the same thing right now.

FELICIA
I promise I'll keep an eye on her for you, Judy. And your mother, too. Anything you need, or anything you think they might need, just call me.

JUDY
Thanks, Felicia.

FELICIA
Don't thank me. You helped save my life once. I owe you my life.

JUDY
(with a wry smile)
I really miss having you around as a full-time friend.

FELICIA
So do I...(they hug)...so do I. (She looks at her watch.) I'm sorry to cut this short, but I promised to meet my daughter back at my apartment in about half an hour.

JUDY
I understand. Is this Lorna or Jenna?

FELICIA
Lorna. I haven't told you, have I? I'm a grandmother now. Lorna's got a baby girl.

JUDY
Felicia, that's wonderful!

FELICIA
I want you to come over and see her, all right? But I do have to run. I'll see you at the service, and please, please let me know if you need anything, okay?

JUDY
I will. It's good to see you again.

As Felicia leaves, we:

HARBOR CLUB/DAY

HAYLEY is sitting at the bar, her head bent down over a reservation book. She doesn't notice as LORNA walks up beside her, Gabrielle in her arms.

LORNA
Hi.

Hayley raises her head from the thick book and sees Lorna standing next to her.

HAYLEY
(Standing up)
Hi! I'm surprised to see you here.

LORNA
I wanted to come see how you were doing. I know I haven't talked to you in a few days, but I had to let things sink in.

HAYLEY
I understand. Believe me, I understand. Hi, Gabrielle!

LORNA
(smiling)
Gabrielle Felicia, meet your aunt Hayley.

HAYLEY
She's so adorable! Can I hold her?

LORNA
(hesitantly)
Are you sure you should pick her up in your condition?

HAYLEY
(nodding as she takes Gabrielle out of Lorna's arms)
Yeah..it's no big deal. The doctor at the clinic said I could lift things as long as they weren't strenuous. I don't think Gabrielle counts as strenuous.

LORNA
Can we sit?

HAYLEY
Yeah...we're slow right now. (She leads Lorna to a table, and sits, settling Gabrielle on her lap, who begins playing with the silver necklace around Hayley's neck.) She's such a good kid. Is she always this good?

LORNA
Most of the time. She has her little temper tantrums, but I guess all babies do.

HAYLEY
I'll have to take your word for it.

LORNA
Felicia told me that she took you to see Cass.

HAYLEY
She did. He said he's going to try and contact potential adoptive parents for me.

LORNA
So you still want to go through with it?

HAYLEY
Is that why you're here? To ask me about the adoption?

LORNA
(sighing)
No. Not exactly. The main reason I came, other than to see you, is to tell you that I think we should tell Felicia who you are. Don't you?

Hayley doesn't answer her.

LORNA(cont'd)
I know you're probably scared at what she's going to say, Hayley, but I know my mother.

HAYLEY
But I didn't tell her who I was! She was trying to do all of this stuff for me...she's still trying...and I didn't tell her. I don't want her to think I was trying to cheat her or something.

LORNA
She's not going to think that, Hayley, I promise.

As Hayley and Lorna talk, TITO walks in the front of the restaurant and looks around. As he sees Hayley, shock falls over his face and he stares at her.

TITO
Oh, my God. It IS her.
