VICKY'S HOSPITAL ROOM/SAME DAY
Paulina and Vicky are still talking. Remy and Nick come in with
Kirkland.
REMY
Hi.
PAULINA
Hi, sweetie.
NICK
How are you feeling, Vick?
VICKY
Hi, much better now. Hi, Kirkland.
KIRKLAND hops on the bed with Vicky.
KIRKLAND
Mom, Uncle Nick said you had to stay in the hospital.
VICKY
Actually, kiddo, they're letting me go home this afternoon.
KIRKLAND
How come you have to stay so long?
VICKY
The doctors just want to make sure I'm okay.
KIRKLAND
Are you okay?
VICKY
I'm fine, sweetheart.
Vicky kisses Kirkland
VICKY
(To Remy and Nick)
Thank you for bringing him over.
REMY
No problem. We love spending time with him.
KIRKLAND
Mommy, I have to go to the bathroom.
NICK
You want me to take you, Sport?
KIRKLAND
No, I can go by myself.
Nick looks at Vicky
VICKY
(To Kirkland)
Do you know where the bathroom is?
KIRKLAND
Yeah, we just passed it. It's right down the hall.
VICKY
All right. Just hurry back, okay?
KIRKLAND
I will.
Kirkland leaves.
PAULINA
(To Remy)
Honey, did Joe call?
REMY
Not yet.
VICKY
Is something wrong?
PAULINA
No, Joe promised he'd call with an update of the investigation.
VICKY
I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that this is actually
happening. It's like a dream.
NICK
You wake up from dreams. This is real.
Cut to: Kirkland in the hallway. The mystery man approaches him.
MYSTERY MAN
Hi there. (Kirkland tries to go around him, but the mystery man
stops him). What's wrong?
KIRKLAND
I'm not supposed to talk to strangers.
MYSTERY MAN
That's a very good policy. But I'm not a stranger - Kirkland.
KIRKLAND
How do you know my name?
MYSTERY MAN
I'm a friend of your mother's.
KIRKLAND
You know my mom?
MYSTERY MAN
Quite well, in fact. Can you do me a huge favor? Can you give
your mom these flowers. (Mystery man hands flowers to Kirkland).
KIRKLAND
What's your name?
MYSTERY MAN
Just tell her they're from someone who cares. And tell her I'm
thrilled about the twins.
MYSTERY MAN walks away.

LUCKY LADY/SAME DAY
ETTA MAE, CHRIS, DANIEL, and KEITH are seated at one table,
talking quietly. JUDY is with KC at the bar, her arm around KC's
shoulder.
JUDY
Kiddo, it's okay to get upset.
KC
I AM upset! I just don't want to talk about it, okay?
JUDY
You can't just ignore it, baby.
KC
What do you want me to do? Have a screaming and crying fit in the
middle of the restaurant? Go toss myself off of a bridge?
JUDY
You can talk to me...don't hold your feelings inside, KC.
KC
(quietly)
Why Toni?
JUDY
(sighing)
I think that's a question that we're all asking, KC. I really do.
KC
It just doesn't make any sense! She had Chris, she had this great
career, and it's all taken away from her? Why?
JUDY
We're never going to know the answer.
KC
I don't want to know the answer. I just want Toni back!
She begins to cry, and Judy reaches out to hold her. Etta Mae
watches them silently from her own table.
ETTA MAE
I'm glad Judy's here for KC. They've always been close. It must
be the oldest-youngest connection.
DANIEL
Mom, if you need us to do anything, stay here for awhile and help
out, we can.
KEITH
Yeah, Mom. I don't feel comfortable leaving you if you're not
able to handle this place.
ETTA MAE
I'll be fine. Keeping this place open will help me. It's a form
of therapy. It keeps me from thinking too much about why this
happened.
CHRIS
I'm going to find out why this happened, Etta Mae. We're going to
know exactly why it happened.
ETTA MAE
Let the police handle it, Chris...we don't want to lose you, too.
CHRIS
I refuse to let whoever did this get away with it---
He stops talking as JAKE enters the Lucky Lady. Jake walks over
and offers condolences to Etta Mae, and she introduces him to
Daniel and Keith.
ETTA MAE
These are my sons, Daniel and Keith. And you remember Judy.
JAKE
Of course I remember Judy. (They hug quickly) It's good to see
you again.
CHRIS
How's Vicky, man?
JAKE
She's doing all right. I'm taking her home this afternoon. She
wanted me to tell you she's sorry she won't be at the memorial
service.
ETTA MAE
You just tell that girl to take care of those babies. I know
she's with us in spirit.
JAKE
You can be sure of that. Look, I just wanted to stop by and offer
my sympathies to you. I'm going to go take Vicky home. Etta Mae,
Chris, if any of you need anything, please let us know.
ETTA MAE
Thank you, Jake...I just need you to take care of your wife for
me. Make sure that she and those precious little angels are all
right.
JAKE
I'll do that. (He kisses Etta Mae on the cheek) Daniel, Keith, it
was nice to meet you, and Judy, make sure you don't stay away too
long.
CHRIS
I'll walk you to the door. (He goes to the door with Jake) Jake,
if you find out anything about who might have done this---
JAKE
---Chris, you'll be the first one I call. I promise.
CHRIS
I have to know who killed Toni.
JAKE
(quietly)
I'm sorry, Chris.
CHRIS
(close to tears)
I don't know how long I'll be away. I don't know when I'll be
able to come back.
JAKE
Take your time, Chris.
CHRIS
Thanks...go on...get out of here and take your wife home.
Jake clasps his hand on Chris' shoulder, then turns and leaves.
As he leaves, we:

JOSIE and GARY'S APARTMENT/SAME DAY
GARY is in the living room, sorting through what looks to be old
pictures.
GARY
(calling into the kitchen)
J! What kind of pictures are we looking for?
JOSIE
(coming out of the kitchen)
Anything of Cameron. I know you don't have many, but we just need
some to go up for the memorial service.
GARY
(picking one out of the pile in his hands)
Here's a good one. Cameron in high school, right after a big
track meet. He won that day...God, I was so proud of him. He had
been fighting this bad ankle, and it had been bothering him all
week. When he got out there, he just forgot about the pain. He
managed to come in first in every race.
JOSIE
You two always managed to come out on top, huh? Even after the
hell that your father put you through?
GARY
For awhile. Then it all disinegrated, as you saw.
JOSIE
I only saw two brothers who were pushed apart by some pretty
strong circumstances.
GARY
I don't want to get into that. I guess I can take comfort in
knowing that Cameron and I were getting close to one another
again.
JOSIE
He loved you. He always did....
GARY
And Amanda...they'd just started their life together.
JOSIE
Amanda has her family. I'm concerned with you right now, not
Amanda---
She stops as someone knocks on the door. She walks over to it and
opens it to find CASS and LILA.
JOSIE
Hi, Cass, Lila. What a nice surprise!
Cass and Lila move inside. Lila and Cass each give Josie a quick
hug, and Gary walks over to them.
CASS
Gary, I'm so sorry....
GARY
Thank you. And thank both of you for coming over here. (He shakes
Cass's hand and kisses Lila on the cheek)
LILA
We wanted you to know that we're here for you.
JOSIE
We appreciate that. Very much so.
CASS
We'll be at the memorial service this evening.
GARY
I think the joint service for Toni and Cameron was a nice idea.
It's nice of Carl to take care of it.
CASS
Look, you two, I don't know if this is the right time to bring
this up or not, but I thought you might be interested in hearing
some good news.
JOSIE
What is it, Cass?
CASS
I may have a baby for you to adopt.
Josie and Gary are silent as we:
