January 2002 ~ Crack the Dom!

Happy New Years ladies n' gents! And may it be a good one for ya! They've all been pretty good for me so far. (Knock on wood.) Every year I see my mommy make a million lists of stuff she wants to do for the new year. She calls them her "New Year's Resolutions." So I decided to make my own, but unlike mommy, I plan to actually do the things on my list:

  • train mommy to rub my belly on command
  • find that tennis ball I lost
  • put more energy into waking mommy up in the mornings
  • catch a squirrel
  • loose 10 pounds [that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but it's always on mommy's list so maybe it's a required one]

Good luck with your resolutions! Ok, now for this months dirt. The first major of event of the year was the family reunion! I finally met cousin Beauty. And boy does she ever live up to her name! Me n' mommy spent the weekend with her and my aunt... but I can't say the gal was crazy about me. Oh, I tried...I tried to make it work, but whenever I went up to her all she'd do was shove her paw in my face. She also did a few other things a tad too obscene to mention.

February 2002 ~ Keep the party going!

Happy Birthday to MEEEEE! I'm officially a grown up. I turned the big 4 this month. Geesh, 4yrs of livin' already?! Time flies when you're having fun. I don't really feel older though. Mommy says she can sense an air of maturity around me...but maybe it's cause she hasn't given me a bath in a while.

Mommy started volunteering at the local Animal Shelter. Once a week on that day she'd come home full of such interesting smells. I'm always ready and willing to accompany mommy anywhere, and one week she decided to take me! It was soooo much fun, but I think I got enough of a work out for a whole TWO DAYS! We walked and we walked and we praticed our commands and we sniffed and we walked and we walked. There were sooo many doggies there! But I only got to mingle with a couple of them. I never met shelter pups before. I had no idea there were so many of us without homes. I really wish they could all come live with me!

They got a neato website lots of pics: Animal Haven

March 2002 ~ Miss Cleo

And no, not the psychic. Me and Sasha met for one of our evening romps in the park, and low and behold. There she was! The dog of my dreams. Cleo. Cleo. Xator n' Cleo. Simon n' Cleo. Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? This dog is BEAUTIFUL. Mommy's gonna try go get a pic of her so you can see what I'm talking about. And she's 4 years old, same as me! At first mom didn't want me to meet her, cause she thought she might be mean. (She's a little paranoid sometimes.) Boy did she prove us wrong! Her dad even bought a cool gadget with him. It was this magical red light thingie, and boy is it quick! Cleo and Sasha LOVE it. They really go crazy, but I'm not sure I see the point.

I really hope she joins the play group. She has cool toys and we could always use another pretty face! But I've only seen her a couple of times...then poof no more. =(

April 2002 ~ Bye Bye Birdie

Well, that thing about April showers really is true. Feels like it's been raining all month. This months events have matched the weather. My parakeet Charlie died this month. Can't say I knew him well, and that I never considered eating him...but he did add a nice background music to our house. Mom doesn't really know why he died. He just flew into our yard one day and we've had him ever since. Maybe the stress of living in the city finally caught up to him. Maybe he was just old. He never really bonded with us though. He was afraid of everything and everybody. But it's still kinda weird seeing his cage empty and having breakfast in a quiet kitchen. Mommy has a couple of pictures of him somewhere...I'll see if I can get her to put them up soon.

The rain continues...April 18th made 2 years since Buddy left us. March and April are always the hardest for mommy. (His birthday was on March 17th) But being back online and talking about it has really helped her a lot.

May 2002 ~ Dogswalk 2002!!!

I still can't believe we FINALLY went! Mom has been saying she's gonna take us since...as long as I can remember! If you have no idea what I'm going on about, let me fill you in. The Dogswalk is a walk-a-thon (for doggies and their people) that happens every year in NYC. Mom says they do it to raise money for the fight against cancer in people and pets, but I think they do it to give us pups a chance to mingle. I have NEVER seen SOO many of us in one place!

The whole thing was major fun! They had all sorts of contests like owner/pup look-a-like, best costume, best trick, best kiss, and I'm probably forgeting another one. Me and mom didn't join any though. (She's not the social butterfly that I am.) But I DID make a WHOLE LOT of friends and got a bunch of neat stuff! I got a bandana, 2 frisbees, a cool looking water bowl, and a squeaky toy. I even got a cartoon portrait of me done! Mommy also got a button with my picture on it. As always, mom took tons of pictures. I'll annoy her till she puts them up. (She says she'll have them here by mid week.) Wooo hoo!!! Pics are here!! (Well, at least the first two, got plenty more to come!)

June 2002 ~ A New Addiction

Just when I thought it couldn't get better than balls...it actually DID! Can you believe it, a toy MORE addictive than balls??!! Well yes, it's here! Mommy calls it a "laser light." I mentioned them in my March entry, but I didn't realize the full extent of their addiction till mom got me my very own. Actually, I didn't think much of it at first. It was my good friend Cleo that introduced me to this phenomenon. (Yup, Cleo! She's back in my life and I see her nearly everyday now!) So anyway, I always saw Cleo playing with it one day and was like 'What the heck is she doing?? Can't she see that it's uncatchable?' Then I discovered that not being able to catch it was the whole point! You know...the thrill of the chase. I love running, and I run for running's sake. I have come to love this 'laser' thing...but only when it's in motion. If mommy has it in one place for too long, I'll paw at it till it moves.

Lady Cleo does, however, take the addiction too a whole new level. I mean, this girl could watch a squirrel walk by and if the laser's on, she will NOT chase it. When she and her dad are in the park, she sits in front of him the ENTIRE time waiting for him to take the light out. She won't even stop to acknowledge me! Come to think of it..I don't think she's ever so much as sniffed in my direction. Well...addictions have a way of doing that to ya.
