MultiMedia! - Music

This is the music section of the page. Just to avoid any stupid copyright question the files have been cut to pieces and the encoded quality is very low. All the songs have been converted to 11000Khz Mono and Mp3 encoded, this allows for small filesizes and keeps you from recording the stuff on CDs... ;-)

In this page I put some sample of the most common types of Greek music. Remember to visit the Links page to find some link to Greek radio stations casting over the internet. Starting to listen to Greek music is incredibly difficult. In the first mount nobody likes it, after tree mounts everybody was rushing in the street to buy some CD of Greek singers! That's because we (not Greeks) are not used to the oriental sounds...

Traditional Greek Music. You're going to listen to this kind of music in some special restaurants that go under the name of "Rebetiko". In these taverns you eat and drink normally (paying lot more - 5000 7000Drx per person ~ 21 €) and you have live traditional music.
Usually after eating the girls start dancing while the boys watch and sing. Also some pubs offer this kind of music played live.

MP3 - 1:04 - 1600Khz Mono 16Kbit/s - 127Kb

Rock Greek music. As all of the countries also Greece has some groups offering Rock in the national language. You will find live Greek rock in communal concerts and in some pubs. Chances are that you'll find rock music the most normal kind of music of the country!

MP3 - 1:34 - 1600Khz Mono 18Kbit/s - 207 Kb

Pop music. Greek pop music is a extraordinary mix of western and Eastern styles. Some of their songs are remakes of Arabic songs and some others are more in the western stile.

Elefteria Arvanitaki, a pop and traditional singer, is a good example of the Arab contaminations in of Greek music. Click here to download (or listen) to the song :Dinatà - Elefteria Arvanitaki
