Clan Mardzova

The History of Clan Mardzova

Clan Mardzova has existed since early in the second age, there are some who have claimed it existed in the first age. There is no hard evidence as to when the clan was formed but there are legends of members of the clan aiding in the war against the Power Mages. The oldest records claim that the clan was formed during the fpihtet empire as a way of preserving the culture and the history of the giants. Some members of the clan aided in the rebellion against the fpihtet. They took part in the rebuilding after the end of the Second Age. It is very unusual for a clan to be this old since due to fertility problems many clans of giants have died out due to a lack of fertile sons.

During the Third Age they were primarily farmers and small time traders who dealt in small handcrafted items. They managed to avoid most of the problems of the Third Age, including the Race Wars. The giants in this clan never really went for high technology that was necessary for survival. This clan was not affected by the superconductor plague directly, but they were affected by the resulting chaos and struggle of the people around them to survive. This caused about 80 percent of the clan to die, mainly in trying to protect their homes against those survivors who relied too much on technology.

Members of clan Mardzova average from nine to nine and a half feet tall. Red and brown hair are the most common, while the eyes are frequently blue and green. Clan members run toward the heavy side but some of them are light for their height. There have been unusual members of great height and weight, but these are fairly rare.

This clan is also remarkable in that it has a much higher proportions of twins born to it than any other clan of giants. In the clan records there are at least three and possibly four references to the birth of triplets. Some see this as a special blessing conferred on it by Ynar. Therefore, many clerics in this clan follow Ynar. Many members of the clan also have some form of minor psychic power. Magic is not common and few of the clan members will use it very often. The most common non-merchant professions in this clan are clerics and fighters. Psychics are not unheard of but none exist in the current generation. The fact that this clan occasionally has multiple births and frequently three or more children is one of the reasons for their long survival.

The clan has long been merchants. The current generation deals mainly in cloth and sewing supplies, but they are trying to expand into leather working. Their shop/clan house has been in the family for the last five hundred years. Most people see them as fair and honest merchants who have been in the business for the last eight hundred years. Many of the younger members of the clan are apprenticed out to learn other trades to better understand business in the area. This has often led to changes in the wares that the clan deals with.

The clan has always had good relationship with all of the other people living around them. They supply to all races who live in their area. They carry materials and tools and sizes that are bought by all the peoples except for the fpihtet. Yes they do carry sewing kits that are usable by kobolds and apuku. They have just recently started to branch out and carry supplies for leather working. This includes occasionally having supplies of unusual or magical leather supplied by Dravia.

Pyetro is the current head of the clan along with his wife Molla. They are very fortunate in proving that this clan is fruitful by having four children. Because of the number of children, they are held in great honor by the giants and the temple of Ynar. Tarvik, the youngest of their brood, is treated as the jewel of the family since he was the fourth one to be born.

The most recent crisis of this clan involves the kidnapping of Pyetro & Molla youngest son Tarvik along with their daughter Halora's fiancé. This has caused Halora to leave home in search of them and great sadness among all members of the clan. It is hoped by everyone in the clan that Halora is successful in her quest and that it has a happy ending. All of the members of the clan are using whatever powers they have to aid in the search. Any time they get some new knowledge they arrange for it to be sent to Halora.

During this time of crisis, the clan has had little chance to consider other activities but normal business. This has prevented them from expanding their current trade connections. One thing that has come out of this crisis has been the first new members added to the clan for many years. To help them through the crisis the clan Mardzova has invited the family of Xaral to relocate and become members of the extended clan. Xaral's father has taken over the clan's gardens while his wife is helping in the temple of Ynar. Xaral's brother is being trained as a fighter with hopes of helping to rescue his brother.
