Clan Povgrodny
Merchants Extraordinaire

Clan Povgrodny is a worldwide clan of merchants. They have members in most major ports and trade centers around the world. Their ships, which look like barges, may call at a given port about once every ten years. The people in the area usually know about one to two months in advance when a given ship is due in. The ships will have almost anything the buyer may want, however, the clan philosophy is to sell primarily based on need.

All members of the clan use their own first name followed by a patronymic based on the name of the head of the clan when they joined the clan. Not all members of the clan are actually members of any family currently in the clan. Clan members include members of most of the races, including ogres. There are rumors that the clan even has some exceptionally smart trolls working in some areas. Most members of the clan are hobgoblins, but other races are found as members.

The current head of the clan is a hobgoblin named Illya Petrovich.

The clan operates five main ships at this time. Each ship specializes in one area of goods. The Clan also maintains a series of stores in various cities for selling more mundane trade goods. These stores sell fairly normal stuff as well as the occasional "special". There are only a dozen or so of these stores and a small fleet of ships to maintain the supply of harder to get trade goods.

The Ships

Ship           Captain             Race          Goods
Ivan           Vladamir Illyich    Hobgoblin     Weapons
Igor           Dargold Petrovich   Dwarf         Alchemy
Pyotr          Holyman Illyich     Apuku         Holy
Michael        Palovia Illyova     Ogre          Magic
Olga           Saldra Illyova      Hobgoblin     Technology

The ships will set sail with a full cargo and return to the clan base only when their selection of goods has been reduced to a point where they cannot provide for their customers. Most of the ships will buy and sell. When buying they want to know everything about an item, or you get a lower price.

Details About each of the Ships and their Captains:

Ivan:
The Ivan looks like a LARGE barge. There are no visible means of propulsion and people always wonder how it can maintain a constant speed of ten knots.

V.I. carries almost every weapon known to man or ogre. There are three grades of weapons, fair, good and excellent.  Prices range from 75% to 300% of normal based on quality.

Vladamir Illyich is the captain and primary seller of goods aboard the Ivan. He has a habit of talking to Ivan even when not onboard the ship. Vladamir also tries to make sure that his weapons equalize the power of the people he sells to, rather than make a given person really strong. There is a story about an Apuku and an Ogre who went in to buy weapons, the Ogre got a 4 hd sword that did 3d10 damage, while the Apuku got a fusion gun.

There are also stories about an apuku who bought a sling to throw ogres, and a human who bought a flame thrower than was heard to mutter, "Now I can get them Bugs!"

Vladamir also has what is call VI's Private Reserve. This is a selection of weapons such as fusion guns, lasers, stunners that cost large amounts of aurics.

VI is almost constantly talking to his ship calling it either Ivan or Vanya.

Igor:
The Igor has the appearance of a fast three masted Yankee Clipper. It can reportedly do in excess of 25 knots on sail power alone. There are rumors that it can go even faster, but there is no definite proof of this.

Onboard the Igor, alchemists can find almost any potion or ingredient they might need. The prices are generally fair for the area that the Igor currently occupies. Dargold also stocks some very rare and valuable potions that are available nowhere else. Dargold also stocks a limited number of "Special" recipes, these are usually only available by trading.

Dargold is somewhat strange in that he is a dwarf who enjoys the sea and ships. There are rumors that he has potions that make him less dense than water so he can swim. Others claim that he is not a dwarf, but only goes disguised as one. He claims he has a cousin named Kapok who runs a small trading concern along the West coast of Keelbos.

Pyotr:
This is a traditional Ra. On this ship you can buy many wondrous amulets of power. People can buy almost anything that has holy powers. The Pyotr carries very few weapons as these are the realm of the Ivan.

Holyman is an apuku who appears to be about 30 years old. This is strange since he always has seemed to look this old.  He also can handle any object on the Pyotr without suffering any ill effects.

Palovia is a Pro-Fighter/Pro-Psychic. She can analyze items but charges large amounts of aurics and there may be long delays before you get your results. In some cases you will have to meet the Pyotr elsewhere in its travels.

Michael:
This ship looks like your classic Chinese junk. It travels the world from place to place averaging 10 knots. You can buy almost any magical items you may wish to own. They are sold with instructions as to how the item is used.

You can find many magical means of travel on board. There are rings and belts that enable you to fly. There are also many offensive items that can cause large quantities of damage when used correctly. There are very few traditional magic weapons as these are carried by the Ivan.

Olga:
The Olga reminds people of a Viking Long ship. Except there are no oars. It travels around the world doing from 20-40 knots, depending on the height of the seas. It is about 150 feet long and 40 feet wide, it draws only 12 feet.

On this ship you will find wondrous items of technology that can be found nowhere else on Argilla. These items have a very high price. Expect to pay well over 100,000 aurics for most of the better stuff. Some of the simpler and more common items will sell for under 5,000 Au. There are not many weapons in stock, most of those are carried by the Ivan.

Saldra is one of the most knowledgeable people when it comes to technological items. She makes as much for selling her knowledge as from selling stock. There are some areas of knowledge that she will not sell due to their danger to others.

Some people claim that Saldra has a special room where she keeps a live sample of Superconductor Plague for neutralizing items that are extremely dangerous and contain superconductor.  This has never been proven.
