“… and let other people clean up the mess that they had made…”  pg 188

“I called up Daisy half and hour after we found him, called her instinctively and without hesitation. But she and Tom had gone away early that afternoon, and had taken baggage with them.”  Pg. 172

Tom and Daisy recognized that they were both in a very problematic situation, and Tom recognized the threat of Gatsby living so close.  To solve this problem, they decided to run away without warning and let Gatsby figure it out himself.  And I’m wondering… if Gatsby was able to find her after he returned from the war, why wouldn’t he be able to find her again?  Was Tom absolutely sure that Wilson would be able to murder him?  Maybe now that Tom was totally aware of the situation, he was going to be more careful about his reputation.  Perhaps the threat of Daisy having another lover had put him in his place, after always being the one with a lover on the side.
