“Do you know why we left Chicago?  I’m surprised that they didn’t treat you to the story of that little spree.”  Pg. 139

This is another example of Tom and Daisy leaving their problems behind and leaving for another destination.  It shows that running from Gatsby was not completely spontaneous, and that they had done this little trick before.  It shows how either Tom and Daisy can’t see enough to learn from their mistakes, or that they don’t want to.  They might not want to because it's easier to live without responsibilities, and it's easier to leave it be and let other people do the work for them.
