Now let me tell you about Ryo. He is the very first Samurai Trooper we are introduced to, and is the main character and hero of the series. (Much to the disappointment to those of us who do not consider him our favorite character . . . ) His yoroi is Rekke (Wildfire) and with this armor he can control (one can assume) and draw strength from fire. He is also darn near undefeatable in his element. (You try fighting someone in a volcano or in the middle of a raging fire and see how easy it is.) A flip to that is that he is vulnerable in water.
On his chest plate are two circles with four triangles in them set near each shoulder. I personally think they look somewhat like flowers. (A cherry blossom?) His kanji is Jin (Harmony) and I assume this is why he was chosen to be the bearer of the Kikoutei yoroi. He has to unite the five armors together, in harmony, for the Kikoutei to be summoned. Rekke has two katana blades that are carried sheethed on its back, and Ryo can use them both at the same time! Impressive. He can also lock the hilts of the two blades together to create a boomerang type weapon. He usually does this when he uses Soenzan. (The attack is as follows. He combines his swords. The heat off of his armor caries him up into the air. He calls out his attack as he swings his combined swords at his intended target in an overhand manner. A wall of flames rush from the swords, destroying the target.)
Ryo lives in the mountains, probably in the Yamanashi Prefecture. As his father is always absent, Ryo pretty much grew up on his own. It is said that he lives so far up that he had a nine-hour walk to school. Highly probable as the Yamanashi Prefecture is not densely populated and is very mountainous. (Fuji-yama is in this prefecture.)
Ryo is a very kind, cheerful, and carefree young man, more than likely active in a variety of sports. He likes people, but has a tendency to be uncomfortable in social gatherings, probably due to his solitary upbringing. Being the casual type, he cares little about dressing nice or what styles are currently in fashion.
He has a great love of nature and of everything that lives in it.
One of his major strengths is his loyalty to his friends. Another is his stubbornness. He is more than willing to fight to the death, or sacrifice himself to save a friend. (We get to see that several times during the TV series.) He is a bit impatient, and will rush off into battle without a moments notice (or plan) if he feels it is the right thing to do.
Ryo is overtly sensitive to how others think and feel, and does have periods of self doubt, especially if he thinks he failed someone. He also has a tendency to be very blunt when talking to people, not having learned much in the way of tact I guess.
I like Ryo. He is not my favorite character, or second, but I do like him. I will admit, however, that I did kinda get tired of seeing everyone else get captured and him running all over the place. And though I do understand that as the main character he was focused on the most, I would have liked to have seen more of the other characters.
