My Impression on the album 'TRUE'
'TRUE' is L'Arc~en~Ciel 's 3rd album since their major debut. (Please don't let it be the *last* one! T_T) It was released on Dec. 12, 96. My overall rating of this album is 10 out of 10. I really really like this album. I think I'll take it with me anywhere I go travel. Today is 6/22 and I've probably listen to this CD more than 100 times. I still haven't got tired of it!! I just LOVE Hyde's voice!!
Here are my reviews/comments/opinions...or whatever you wanna call it - on all songs in 'TRUE' :
1. Fare Well (words : hyde music : ken)
Ah~love hyde's voice! (sorry, can't help it ^_^). The piano intro is nice, I really like the way it develops into a syncopation pattern. Hyde's singing is very passionate and touching. So emotional that it tingles my heart. A slow song - I recommend listening to it at night time....
2. Caress of Venus (words : hyde music : ken)
The end of 'Fare Well' has an anticipation part that leads you to 'Caress of Venus'. Tetsu sings in this one!! Falsetto Chorus ne! But kinda difficult to hear. The vib. piano parts by Ken is nice. Very bright and upbeat. Definitely a morning song ^_^
3. Round and Round (words : hyde music : hyde)
I LOVE THIS SONG!! Hyde really shows off his 'masculine' side in this one! ^_^ So strong and powerful the way he sings it. I want to see him sing this LIVE!!! Too bad this is not released as a single. Probably the most 'ROCK' song in the album. Ah! The dissonance done by the piano is so good (during one episode)! Love the way it kinda clash the chords but it still sounds super good! Sakura's drum is cool, it wakes you up!! Tetsu's bass line is the best! So creative - you can hearing him doing this repeated pattern which sounds like he's goin' round and round and round..........
4. flower (words : hyde music : hyde)
Hyde, Hyde, Hyde! Did I already mention that I love his voice? ^_^ This is definitely a Hyde's song. He composed this song and wrote the lyrics for it (well he wrote all the lyrics of L'Arc anyways). Even the harmonica part is done by him! I'm very lucky to have seen this on video. Hyde is soooo cute with his short dark hair swinging his head while playing the harmonica. Oops, sorry that I've gone to far blabbing about Hyde! Okay, this song is a very bright, very refreshing song. (flower!). The combination of Hyde's harmonica and Ken's guitar is sure a highlight! It is like a response line to the melody line. Luv it! ^_^
5. good-morning Hide (words : sakura music : hyde)
An English song! The lyrics are done by Sakura (The ONLY one that's not by Hyde!), but it is translated into English. Hyde's English is not that bad, actually, not bad at all! At least I can hear clearly what he's singing! (But the English still doesn't quite make sense to me:P) From the title I thought it was a slow one, I was pretty surprised when I first listen to it. A rock song indeed! Very fast and catchy. One of my friend (Hi Freda!) said this is like a love song to Hyde...*_*. Agree or not, listen to it and you'll find out!
6. the Fourth Avenue Cafe (words : hyde music : ken)
Careful if you're driving and listening to this at the same time. The intro is "Street Sounds", there's this "car honk" that you would thought somebody really "honk!" you ^_^ This is another bright and upbeat song. Melody line is good, very moving which makes you want to sing along. I really like the use of the Brass Family (trumpet, trombone..etc) in this song. The support along with bass and guitar is great. Not to mention Sakura's drums!
7. Lies and Truth (words : hyde music : ken)
This is the song that got me hooked to L'Arc~en~Ciel. Thanks to all those CM's ^_^ This is an album version called 'True-mix'. The differences between this/single is that in the mix version : 1) Earlier entrance of Sakura's drums 2) Use of the String Family (violin, viola..etc) 3) Different ending. Other than that, both versions sound pretty much the same. I Luv them all! ^_^ Especially Tetsu's bass line! (Same in both version)
8. Kaze ni kienaide (words : hyde music : tetsu)
Another favorite! (Well actually, all are my faves ^_^) It gives you the main melody right at the beginning, then bring you around some episodes, and than lead you back to the main melody again! (get it? :P) A fast and upbeat song. Not gloomy or dark at all. Tetsu sings again! Still difficult to hear though, maybe if you put it into Karaoke form, you can hear it better ^_^
9. I Wish (words : hyde music : tetsu)
Tetsu says this is L'Arc's Christmas Song! Very fun and very cute. Especially the little kids + L'Arc's background vocals! Everyone is so happy and lively in it! The clappings are very cute too! But....it makes me feel so sad at the same time because whenever I hear the drums and the happy background vocals, it reminds me of Sakura....and he is now gone! T_T They're such a success and everyone is so happy and like, they're ready to have a bright feature ahead of them but....so sad indeed....If you're a big fan of L'Arc, I'm sure you would feel it too.....can't wait for them to come back!!!
10. Dearest Love (words : hyde music : tetsu)
Last song in the album. Tetsu also sings in this one! This time he actually has a solo part! To me, Dearest Love is like a Part II of Fare Well. Same kind of feeling only this is much more passionate that the first. It gets more emotional as you listen to it. Ah~Luv Hyde's voice ^_^ Dearest Love indeed! ^_^
