Buying a Computer

This is an immediate expense because it is a tool for finding a job.

Computer time is available through the transition network and at public libraries.

Discounts on new computers are available through the transition network.

Amazon.com has opened up a used computer section on their website.  Under the COMPUTERS section there is REFURB and USED tab.  These seem to be computers off corporate leases and carry a 30 day guarantee.  The cheapest found was $229, but this will change from day to day.

Internet Access

There used to be several companies that provided a free internet account, however, this has not been a profitable venture and several have discontinued this service. NetZero is one of the few companies still offering free access.  If their free service is not satisfactory, they offer unlimited access for $9.95 per month.  AOL, Earthlink,  Prodigy, PacBell, and AT&T are all large providers with services typically costing from $19.95 to 21.95 for unlimited access.  They have less expensive plans for a fixed number of hours.  These services will allow you to establish a web based email account as well as browse the Internet. If you need assistance setting up your computer please Contact Us.

Free Internet Email

There are a large number of providers for free email accounts. These are web based systems and require internet access. Select one of the following links to open an email account:
