// Criminal gangs \\

Unlike in Kanto, Johto and Hoenn, the majority of criminals in Janera were not part of a massive corporation. There were a few much smaller-sized gangs, from the shadow ninja order of the Wolf to Mitosis, an organised gang of thieves, and a lot of criminal individuals. In 1996, however, a new organisation formed on the border between Janera and Johto before shifting up into Malmarsh. Unlike other teams, that recruited anyone black minded enough to do the job, this new group went to victims of other organisations and tempted them with revenge. This fast-growing gang goes by the name of Team Emerald.

// Team Emerald \\

Aim: To harass and eventually dismantle the vast Team Rocket.
Base: Although it has yet to be pinpointed exactly, somewhere in the metropolis Malmarsh.
Leader: His name is unknown, but he is an amazing battler with both Pokémon and his own body.
Style: Known simply as 'revenge', the way Emerald works is not in one simple style. They alternate between stealth, outright attacks, terrorism, diversions and blackmail, mainly due to the freedom each unit is given. To a point they are allowed to decide and plot their own missions (although they all have to put any major undertakings past the boss first and can be ordered back at any time), the often simultaneous movements giving Team Emerald the nickname octopus for having many arms all working at once. They also have a small scientific research unit dedicated to the creation of extra-powerful Pokémon through mecha mutations.
Members: People who have, in the past, been victims of Team Rocket's presence; from loosing a relative to personal injury.
Mascots: The high legendary, Trineth
Uniform: Although it is not always worn, the uniform for Emerald team members is generally nothing more than anything of grey and shades of green. The only strict rule about this is that every member must wear the swath of emerald green cloth (normally velvet, although a disgraced member may well be downgraded to starched cotton) around arm, leg or neck. This piece of material is apparently given to each individual member by the team leader himself, and is of great importance to the team. Even when working undercover, it is very unlikely that an Emerald will take it off.

OPERATION "FIRST MISSION"
Time:
July 1997
Place: Saffron city, Kanto, and surrounding routes

The true mission name is unknown, but authorities have nicknamed this attack as the "first mission" only because any earlier movements were so insignificant they went unnoticed.
The summer of 1997 was a boiling one, with droughts ravaging the country. Team Rocket was, at the time, aiming for complete domination of Silph Co. and had many agents stationed in Saffron alongside some grunts.
Deciding that it was time to take advantage of the situation, the Emerald Leader sent all twelve units of his newborn team out into Kanto where they cut all exterior water and food supplies into Saffron. With the Emeralds blocking the routes, it became impossible for Rocket to get in supplies or reinforcements to their operation and their men (along with many of Saffron's civilians who were unable to send out a plea to the government thanks to both teams) started to weaken from lack of water and food.
It just so happens that in the day before the final strike was meant to be struck by Emerald, two young trainers by the names of Red and Blue stumbled in on the operation. Due to the weakened state of the Rockets, they were unable to defend themselves and were driven out os Silph by mere children. It was a huge loss for Team Rocket.

OPERATION SNOWDOWN
Time: October 2004
Place: Route 38, Johto

After hearing a rumour that a clutch of Polienix eggs were about to hatch near Beechgrove forest, a stone's throw from the main base, the Emerald leader sent out an order to units all over the globe: capture large amounts of strong Pokémon not common to the area between Malmarsh, Olivine and Ecruteak.
He got what he wanted; a massive cage full of different Pokémon species from Houndour to Raichu. Accompanied by the team's newest weapon, a massive mech-altered Mightyena called Mechyena, the chosen unit moved in quickly. While the brute Mechyena snuck around the nearest cities, Olivine and Ecruteak, wounding trainer's Pokémon to get them out of the way, Olivine's Nurse Joy and her helper Chanseys were taken out of the picture by a few other team members.
With that done, they started to release the rare, strong Pokémon into the woods, aiming to flush all the Polienix out into the open in the hope of securing the one that would evolve into the half-legendary, Articairion.
The operation crumbled, however, when Articairion herself struck out at the men around the cages. Unable to catch her due to her legendary resistance to Pokéballs of most types, the attacked team members were killed and Mechyena caught up in a colossal fight. This was all put to an end, however, when a sniper from the bushes shot Articairion dead. It is unknown as to whether the gunner was from Team Emerald or not, but that single shot put Emerald on a timer: once one of the Polienix evolved it would become quite impossible to catch and tame!
