National Transportation Research Center (NTRC)
NTRC.gif (50567 bytes) Located in the technology sector between Knoxville and Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the National Transportation Research Center offers support for government and corporate research of efficient transportation systems. The center was begun by ORNL - Oak Ridge National Laboratories- and the University of Tennessee, along with other private corporations and the U.S. Department of Energy.
This high-tech facility off the Pellissippi Parkway was constructed in October 2002 and contains almost 85,000 square feet of space.

The National Transportation Research Center has several labs covering various facets of transportation:

  • Energy Efficiency
  • Composites & Materials Analysis
  • Environmental Issues
  • Information Systems and Logistics
  • Transportation Safety
  • Emissions & Fuel Systems
NTRC2.gif (48374 bytes) TSA members learn how to solve problems by experimenting and evaluating the results; every day at the NTRC, lab workers test materials and processes, including asphalt, fuel cells, hybrid propulsion, aluminum casting, and brakes.
The NTRC is visitor-friendly; in one area, several display boards illustrate the exciting research conducted on the future of transportation. These displays are similar to something a TSA member would do for the Tech Systems or Inventions & Innovations events. NTRC3.gif (40506 bytes)
