The Benefits of a Yoga Center are Numerous
The benefits of joining a Yoga Center are numerous. Among these is the
sense of community and the wonderful people you will meet that share similar
spiritual, emotional and physical goals. Practicing in a Yoga community
under the guidance of an experienced and well-intended yogi can help our
practice immensely.
The yoga instructor's directions and adjustments, as well as the presence
of other yogis, are constant reminders to be true to our intentions and
to look within, always striving for perfection of self and harmony with
our environment. The instructor's hands-on guidance and community spirit
helps us remain focused during our practice, while the overall shared experience
enlightens us with a powerful energy in and of itself.
Undoubtedly, the sensation one receives from the community spirit adds
a beautiful energy to one's practice; even so, remember that an individual
does not need a roomful of other yogis in order to practice yoga or an
audience in order to feel the benefits of our meditation and poses. The
true focus of our yoga practice is within the self.
There are some downsides to practicing home alone.
For instance, if you are just beginning to practice yoga, not having an
experienced and knowledgeable guide can lead to improper positioning that
might cause you more harm than good. Even advanced yogis can use some spiritual
and physical adjustments and guidance from time to time.
To be truly beneficial, Yoga should be practiced
every day, even if for only 20 minutes. So, combining a home practice with
a community practice is almost essential.
With this in mind, there are some very practical
factors to consider that might not seem to have anything to do with yoga.
Our
decision of who to practice with, as well as where, is a very important
factor in a healthy yoga practice.
