Dhamma Talk

We are pleased to be able to organise a Dhamma talk by Ajahn Brahmavamso, currently the Abbot of Bodhinyana Monastery in Western Australia. Despite having an extremely busy schedule during his stay in Melbourne, Ajahn Brahmavamso accepted our impromptu invitation without any hesitation. This will be his first Dhamma talk for MUBSS, so don't miss this wonderful opportunity to listen to a gifted educator and practitioner of the Buddha Dhamma. Please be punctual as Ajahn Brahmavamso must leave by 7:00pm to conduct another talk. With metta, MUBSS.

Date: Tuesday, 26th November 2002
Time: 5:00-7:00pm
Venue: Green Room, Frank Tate Building, The University of Melbourne
Speaker: Ajahn Brahmavamso
Notes: Ajahn Brahmavamso was born in London in 1951. He regarded himself a Buddhist at the age of 17 through reading Buddhist books while still at school. His interest in Buddhism flourished while he was studying at Cambridge University. After completing his degree in Theoretical Physics and teaching for a year, he traveled to Thailand to become a monk at the age of 23. He spent 9 years studying and training in the forest meditation tradition under Ven. Ajahn Chah. In 1983, he was invited to set up the Bodhinyana Monastery in Western Australia and is now the Abbot there, leading and training 17 monks and anagarikas (novices). On December 16th, 2001, he entered into a solitude retreat for six months. He has just emerged from this retreat with amazing results.

Time: 7:00 pm
Venue: Undergraduate Lounge A, 2nd Floor, Union House

He has been involved, in this role, with the Kagyu E-Vam Buddhist Institute in North Carlton for some time. There he practices in the Tibetan tradition under Venerable Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche. This week Andrew will be basing his talk around what it means to be a Buddhist, namely taking the three refuges and opening one's mind in preparation for the Buddhist path and how to continue doing these things. Hope you are all well and see you there! * If there is not too much protest, we would like to keep the talks on Friday nights, for the sake of continuity and so that you don't have to consult emails all the time for details (although the room may still vary unfortunately).

Dhamma Talk

Time: 6:30pm
Venue: Undergraduate Lounge A, 2nd Floor Student Union

Andrew Williams is our guest speaker for this week and some of you may know him from events last year. Andrew has been a Buddhist for more than 20 years, a dhamma/meditiation teacher for over 5 years and has a broad knowledge of the Tibetan tradition. He'll be leading an open Dhamma discussion and also a meditation and prayer session. He is also quite an entertainer! So bring any questions you have regarding Buddhism or just life in general.
