Dhamma Talk

Topic: How the Dhamma helps deal with exam stress and improves exam results!
Speaker: Venerable Mahinda
Notes: Venerable Mahinda conducted two workshops in July this year and it was immensely educational, inspirational and enjoyable. Ven. Mahinda will conduct a short meditation and blessing for the first half-hour of the talk to cater for those who do not have much time because of exams. Ven. Mahinda is based at the Aloka Meditation Centre at Peats Ridge on the NSW Central Coast.

Notes: Ajahn Ian was born in England and ordained in 1972 in Thailand. He now resides in Sanghaloka Forest Hermitage in the Dandenong Hills of Victoria.

Speaker: Venerable Jinalankara
Notes: Venerable Jinalankara is the new resident monk of Buddhist Society of Victoria. He was ordained in a forest monastery in Sri Lanka.

Notes: Acharn Somwang is the President and Chief monk of the Melbourne Thai Buddhist Temple (Wat Thai Nakorn).

Topic: The relevance of the Buddha's Teachings to a student in the information economy

Topic: Buddhism on a University campus
Speaker: Venerable Mahinda
Notes: Venerable Mahinda was born in Malaysia and ordained as a Theravada Buddhist monk in 1976, under the tutelage of Ven. Dr. K. Sri Dhammanada Nayaka Thera. He undertook basic Buddhist studies and training in Sri Lanka and practical Buddhist meditation under several masters in Sri Lanka, India, Burma and Thailand. His attendance at international conferences and inter-faith dialogues has taken him to more than 30 countries, including Tibet and Taiwan. Since arriving in Australia as founder and Spiritual Director of the Australian Buddhist Mission, Ven. Mahinda has given a wide range of lectures. He is the Buddhist chaplain at the University of Technology Sydney, and has been invited to be the religious patron to the Buddhist societies at Sydney University, Macquarie University and Newcastle University. When not travelling overseas, Ven. Mahinda is based at the Aloka Meditation Centre at Peats Ridge on the NSW Central Coast.

Notes: Michael Wells is currently the president of the Buddhist Society of Victoria.

Speaker: Dr. Saman Fernando
Notes: Dr. Saman Fernando has a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and was the top student at university. He owes his success to Buddhist meditation which he started at a very early age. He provides his services at the Buddhist Vihara Victoria, Noble Park.
