Genetic Connections

Don't get her wrong, the girl loves her family. They just make her crazy, that's all. She lived with both parents and her sister until her senior year of high school when her mother moved out and filed for divorce. She's spent a little time living at school and on an Air Force base, but she always ends up back home with her father and sister. This has been more than a little stressful, simply because Dad, sis, and the girl all have very different lifestyles.

First, though, we'll introduce her mother. We could write pages about her, and may someday, but we'll keep this brief. Mom made one big mistake early in life: she married her German professor, the girl's father, when she was 18. Two children and 25 years of housewifery later, she got a job as a machinist, moved out, and filed for divorce. Now she's working as a package handler for "brown", studying for a degree in radiation technology, and remodeling her house. She loves classical music, playing with fabric, and collecting large pieces of unmarred cardboard for various projects. And guys? She's single!

Dad's another recent addition to the dating pool, though he cares more about his hobbies than picking up women. He's still a professor, but he wishes he could make a living doing what he loves: collecting minerals, insects, and model cars. He writes books on model cars, translates German books for his publisher, and gives talks on various natural sciences. He's looking forward to retiring in the next few years.

The girl adores her sister. She also hates her guts. Of course, they're three years apart, so that love-hate duality comes with the territory. Sis wants to major in something related to animals, and is currently working at two nature centers. She loves horses, and rode competitively for a while, but stopped to focus on school. When she's not at work, sis spends most of her time with her current boyfriend, Muppet, who keeps her reasonably sane.
