If Idle Hands Are the Devil's Work, The girl spends what free time she can find these days working on a few projects: her website, her sewing, and her photography. When she's not up to her ears in other work, however, the girl has a plethora of hobbies with which to occupy her time. The big ones, writing and photography, have pages of their own, while the rest are piled here. Needlework and Fiber Art Thanks to her mother, the girl spent seven years in 4-H, and, in that time, learned how to sew, knit, crochet, tat, weave, spin, card, felt, dye, embroider, and do counted-cross-stitch, longstitch, needlepoint on canvas, and macramé. She was the Hartford County 4-H Fair Clothing Grand Champion for seven years running, and won numerous other needlework-related championships as well. The girl makes some of her own clothes, does alterations for friends, and makes repairs to her family's clothes. She also does a little bit of upholstery from time to time. The girl is proud to say that if something can be made with fabric or yarn, she can make it. Music The girl is obsessed with music. She played violin for four years in elementary school, picked up baritone horn in grade five, learned trombone in the space of one seventh-grade week, and took up bassoon in grade eight. She also plays penny whistle, recorder, piano, and can get a decent sound out of anything but single reeds (clarinet, saxophone). Her one failing is her utter inability to sight-read music, but she makes up for that by being great at playing by ear. In addition to all the instrumental stuff, the girl sings, too ("not very well," says she, "but at least the cats don't run for cover"). Starting her life to the strains of her mother's Telemann and Bernstein albums, the girl was soon exposed to her father's folk records (The Irish Rovers, et al.), and later, in junior high, she was introduced to jazz. This well-rounded sampling gave her an appreciation of good music, regardless of genre, and paved the way for her to become the fan she is today... one of everything from Aerosmith to Aaron Copland, Billie Holiday to Limp Bizkit, Dave Matthews to Mussorgsky, and Mozart to Moby. Her favorite groups/artists at the moment include The Dave Matthews Band, Kylie Minogue, Gerry Rafferty, and U2. Click here to visit the girl's Dave Matthews Band page. Content Copyright © 2002 L. Then I'll make you drink water from that rusty spoon and you'll gag because drinking water from a rusty spoon is disgusting and you'll get really upset because you should have known better than to steal my friggin material. So, um, don't steal. If you think I'm brilliant enough to quote, tell me and provide a link back here. Thanks muchly. Want another disclaimer? Click here. |
