When
you arrive at Aeroporto
di Fiumicino or the Roma Termini get ready to merge onto the freeway of
Italian culture at 75 mph. Be prepared, look to your left, look to you right
and look over your shoulder. If you are looking for relaxation, go to Maui.
If you want a 'smoke free' environment, go to San Francisco. If you are looking
for Sofia Loren, you may see her here! You will not be ready for Rome because
no guidebook, photograph or description will prepare you for her elegance,
energy and grandeur. They say that the first time you visit Rome go to see
the sights, the second time you go to live like an Italian.
There
isn't city in Europe more passionate, friendly or eternal. Rome wasn't built
in a day and cannot be seen in a day. As the mother of Western Civilization,
Rome is packed with two millennia of art, architecture and culture. Where
else can you find the automation of the telephone in a monument which was
built 500 years before Christ? Allow plenty of time to see the top sights
but don't forget, "Quando a Roma fare come Roma", "when in
Rome do as Rome does". Sip a Campari and Soda in a cafe on the Piazza
Navona, have a late dinner in the Trastevere or stroll through the streets
around the Pantheon while enjoying gelato from Giolitti. You will never experience
Rome all in one visit so relax, throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain and begin
planning your next trip.
