When it comes to selecting a hotel in Rome, the best advise to offer is "expect nothing". Hotels in Rome, and throughout Italy, are quite different than you will find in the United States and many other parts of Europe. Since many hotels are old establishments, rooms can vary from large to small to minuscule. Amenities such as hair dryers, showers, televisions and even air conditioning may not be available, or may incur an additional charge if included.
One thing that Italian hotels do include is great service. Italians are known the world over for their gracious hospitality and friendly welcome. When you're greeted you feel like you've known the staff for years and when you depart, you leave forever a friend.
