• Coastal Navigation Certificate (Cruising Helmsman magazine, AYF approved)
• Offshore Navigation Certificate (Cruising Helmsman, and Brookvale TAFE)
• Restricted Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency
• Sea Safety (Australian Volunteer Coast Guard, Gladesville)
• First Aid Certificate (Red Cross)
• Bronze Medallion and Advanced Rescuscitation Certificates (Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club)
• Advanced Open Water Diving certificate (PADI)

The Master V certificate was probably the most comprehensive course, covering survival, fire prevention and control, nautical knowledge, radar, coastal navigation and ship knowledge.

Also at Brookvale TAFE, I studied Meteorology and Offshore Navigation. I found the celestial navigation component very interesting, though I confess that I have become rusty on it's practical application using my sextant.
