Here a picture of the Minden
Wave Windows as agreed with Oakland ARTCC. These windows are relevant if you want to ascend into Class A airspace (18000 ft and above) Even on light wave days in Minden is the fairly easy to achieve. Look at the altimeter in the picture at the bottom., indicating 25000 ft, our club ship maximum, except for the DG1000 which we restrict to a maximum altitude of 18000 ft or -10 degrees Celcius. Please study these Wave Windows intensively. There is increased attention from Oakland Air Traffic Control for the glider pilots not obeying the agreed windows. During last years wavecamp (2005) we had several calls from Oakland about glider pilots violating the windows. This is dangerous in 2 ways: Oakland diverts the traffic around the opened wave window, but with tight separation from the window. This means that as soon as you are outside the open wave window, you could have a close encounter with the big boys. Oakland Air Traffic Controll could refuse to cooperate with the glider community to define and open wave windows. This would basically shut down all of the wave flying above 17999 ft. This would not only be detrimental for our BASA Wavecamp, but would be a serious blow to the whole soaring community. Note that there is alsways only one (1) wave window open at any time.
