Up in
the lush foothills of the Western Ghats, Bondla is the smallest of
the Goan wildlife sanctuaries (8 Sq.Km.), but the easiest to
reach. It's 52km from Panaji and 38km from Margao.
There's
a botanical garden, fenced deer park and a zoo. fauna in the
wild here includes gaur and sambar, but unless you're prepared to
spend few days and put in the time on an observation platform,
you're unlikely to see much in the wild. Entry to the park is
Rs. 5 and Rs. 25 for camera.
There's
chalet accommodation (Phone number: 611144) at Rs. 150 per double
and Rs. 30 for a dorm bed. Bookings can also be made in
Advance at the office of the Department of Forestry in Panaji (Phone

To get
to Bondla, take any bus heading east out of Goa along the NH4A, and
ask to be let out at Usgao Tisk. From there catch a taxi or
motorcycle taxi to the park, or you can take Forest Department bus (Rs.
5) which leaves daily at 11am and 7.30pm. |
