Anjuna - Introduction
|
|
Famous
throughout Goa for its Wednesday flea market, Anjuna is still a
popular meeting points for backpackers, European ravers and
long-term hippies, but times are changing and comfy hotels and
package tourism are beginning to make their mark. The
full-moon parties and the rave scene are almost throttled, though
attempts to get around the new laws are still being attempted.
Anjuna is still a more relaxing place to stay than Calangute, Baga
or Cova, though many travelers that once made their first stop are
now heading to more remote beaches like Arambol to the north. |

the village where you'll find the post office and convenience
stores; and the flea market area to the south, which also makes the
southern end of the beach.
Internet access is
available at a number of places. The Bank of Baroda gives

Anjuna Flea Market
|
| the
Wednesday flea market at Anjuna is a major attraction for people
from all the Goan beaches. It's a wonderful blend of Tibetan
and Kashmiri traders, colorful Gujarati tribal women and blissed-out
1960s-style hippies. It's quite a scene. Whatever you
need, from a used paperback to a haircut, you'll find it here -
along with hundreds of stalls selling jewellery, carvings, T-shirts,
sarongs, chillums, spices and everything else you can think
of. You have to bargain hard to get a reasonable deal.
There are lots of
good Indian and Western food available, as well as a couple of bars,
and when it all gets too much you can wander down to a makeshift
chill-out tent on the beach. Traditional-style fishing boats
area available for transport to the market from Baga to Arambol.
The market starts
in the morning, but doesn't warm up until mid-afternoon and
continues until the crowds drift away after sunset.

Bungee Jumping
|
| Gravity
Zone, towards the beach near the bus stand, offers bungee jumps from
a 25m crane (Rs. 500). There's a cafe, bar and occasional
party nights here. It's open from 10am to 1.30pm and 3 to
9.45pm.
