Mapusa
(pronounced "Mapsa") is the main population center in the
norntern talukas (provinces) of Goa and the main town for supplies
if you are staying at Anjuna or Vagator. There's not much to
see in Mapusa, though the Friday market (8am to 2pm) is worth a
visit. A Hindu and Christian feast day, Feast of Our Lady of
Miracles, is held here 16days after Easter. |

Getting there and Away
|
| If
you are coming from Mumbai, Mapusa is the jumping off point for the
northern beaches. From the Kadamba bus stand, there are
afternoon and evening buses to Mumbai as well as Pune, Hubli and
Belgaum.
There are frequent
local buses to Panaji, and buses every thirty minutes to Calangute
and Anjuna (both Rs. 5). Other buses go to Chapora, Candolim
and Arambol (Rs. 12). A motorcycle taxi to Anjuna or Calangute
costs Rs. 50.
Thivim, about 12km
north-east of town is the nearest train station on the Konkan
Railway. Local buses to Thivim will cost Rs. 5 and an auto
rickshaw will cost Rs. 80.
