is a part of the Xavier University System and is linked closely with its
Department of Sociology and Anthropology. It is committed to playing
an active role in building the research and teaching capabilities of individuals
and groups throughout the region. RIMCU also continues to serve as
a social and cultural center where the sharing and exchange of information
materials and experiences relevant to development can take place.
RIMCU maintains a library available for limited public use. It contains
over 5000 volumes, reports and journals, many of which pertain specifically
to Mindanao.
The Electronic Data Processing Unit offers computer services to RIMCU researchers
and outside personnel/agencies. Coding, data encoding, digital scanning,
programming and data analysis services are available. A variety of
Pentium desktop computers are available along with several newer software
packages. Special discount rates are available for students wishing

The Data Processing Unit also provides information on a wide variety of
topics on population, family planning, health issues, fertility, population
law and policy, population and environment, AIDS, demography, etc.
RIMCU accesses this information through the POPLINE CD-ROM System which
contains more than 200,000 records (updated every 6 months) from 222 organizations
based in seventy countries.
The Survey Field Research Unit conducts surveys and opinion polls.
Interested individuals, associations and institutions may enlist RIMCU's
services in various data gathering operations. Services offered include
sampling, interviewing, supervising (e.g. back checking, field editing)
and preliminary data preparation. RIMCU is willing to carry out survey
studies in various locations throughout the country but is particularly
experienced with regard to settings in the Visayas and Mindanao.
