yesterday's news
March 5th, 2001: here's a bit of an oddity:
Alanna Evans' review of Treat
- Muscle In Motion, a colllection of unreleased tracks recorded by the band in
the early 90s with Mats Leven on vocals, ALSO: cleaned up the RFMD page
and Ilya's Rhapsody
- Dawn of Victory review.&
March 4th, 2001: yes
kiddies, it is Showcase Album of the Month time, and for March it's an extra pulchy review
by Ilya Ulberg (shocking I know) for Rhapsody - Dawn of Victory.
Also be sure to tune into RFMD
Radio for the "Roar Thru March" playlist, tailored more for the
metalhead in us all.
March 3rd, 2001: new
album review by Andy Craven for the excellent Michael Vescera Project -
Animation cd.
February 28th, 2001: yet another album review, give three
cheers for Alanna Evans' look at a 'comeback' release: Lizzy Borden - Deal
With the Devil.
February 27th, 2001: back
after an unwanted offline break. On the metal review offering block today is Hawaii - The Natives Are
Restless.
February 19th, 2001: the
interview as promised, Joseph White interviews the new drummer for Jacobs Dream, Billy Queen.
Read it and enjoy!
February 18th, 2001: the interview with Doogie
White is finally online! Also a new review for Sons of Angels - Thrill of
the Feel, a very unusual album indeed! Many things fixed/added,
including the guestbook
links on the image map... you can now leave
your thoughts in the book! Also a different links page, where you can add your own
metal site or one of your favorites! It's accessible on the main page on the "Links
to Other Metal Sites" link. Those who tried to email me while my
mail was down can now reach me again at the rainstar2k@hotmail.com address.
hint at tomorrow's update: another interview...!
February 11th, 2001: A desperate attempt at getting an
"Album of the Month" out there is here with a Valentine's theme (of
sorts). A popular compilation album (gasp) goes under the gun, entitled Monster Ballads.
February 7th, 2001: The
debut of RFMD, RainbowFlame's Metal Domain's Internet Radio station, continously
broadcasting 24 hrs a day, the best of melodic rock and heavy metal, and for the remainder
of February will be showcasing the very best of ballads since it is the season of love
afterall...TUNE
IN or READ
MORE ABOUT IT.
February 2nd, 2001: will
the groundhog see his shadow? Even if we have six more weeks of winter, the updates
will still keep coming. Alanna Evans writes a new review for Crystal Eyes - In
Silence They March, see if this once promising band managed to improve or
strike upon disaster...a hint at tomorrow's update: new interview + album of the month...
January 26th: Alanna
Evans presents a review for Tony Martin - Back Where I
Belong... a pretty rare find these days, check it out and see if it's worth
your cash importing/bidding on it.
January 24th, 2001: The
bad luck streak continues for RFMD's unlucky webmaster. Her baby guinea pig died on
the table of the vet's office Monday afternoon. Oreo will be greatly missed by his
owners who will keep him in their heart forever.
But life goes on and so does the website, with more reviews presented for your reading
pleasure. Andy Craven has written a review for the much loved David Lee Roth - Eat Em
And Smile as well as an update to his Ian Ashley Hershey - Fallen
Angel review. Alanna Evans despite the bad luck, has a new review as
well for the AOR classic Foreigner
- 4. Both new reviewws and the reworked one have some addition
information reguarding the opinions of the album which will become another standard for
all new reviews in hopes of giving the reader an even better understanding of what to
expect on the disc.
January 20th, 2001: The
second review of 2001 is now up and posted for your reading pleasure. Read up on one
of Germany's favorites, the metal band from Switzerland, Alanna Evans' review of Gotthard - Dial Hard.
January 17th, 2001: No updates for awhile due to a ton of
problems including the webmaster being hit in the head by a falling television (yes its
true - fiction could NOT be stranger). Things are turning back around, and to
celebrate the change of luck, there's an excellent interview posted today. Joseph
White interviews Ayreon's ringleader, Arjen Lucassen.
This one is definitely worth reading. Don't miss it.
January 8th, 2001: a
double shot of Into the Light, starting with an interview with multitalented musician Tim Donahue
and finishing up with Andy Craven's in-depth look at the album itself, Into the Light - Into the Light.
January 6th, 2001: Yes kiddies, it's 2001, almost a week into
the New Millenium (for the purists) or the Second Year of the New Millenium (for the rest
of the mixed up world). But the important thing is: 2000 Year In Review:
Year of the Dragon is now posted for your reading pleasure, featuring top
picks by each member of the Metal Domain, EVERY SINGLE PERSON. That means lots of
reading time... dig in.. it's hot and fresh, guaranteed.
December 27th 2000: a few
adjustments were made to the Ayreon - Universal
Migrator Part II: Flight of the Migrator review, and a brand new review for
one of 2000's turkeys, Labyrinth
- Sons of Thunder. RReadd how this band was once poised to ascend the
power/prog throne, and their fall to the bottom of the heap.
December 23rd 2000: No
80s Weekend for the second week in a row!? Well never fear, it will return in the New
Year, and plenty has been left for the metal starved masses to read while relatives attack
your house over the extended Holiday Weekend. Three brand spankin' new reviews, the
first by Andy Craven for Mark
Boals - Ring of Fire, and then an Ayreon double header, starting off with
Joseph White's Ayreon
- The Final Experiment andd cllosing with Alanna Evans' review of Ayreon - Universal
Migrator Part II: Flight of the Migrator.
December 20th 2000: I
hope and pray everything has been ironed out on the two interviews posted a few days ago
for Stuart Smith
and Kelly Keeling.
Thanks to some stupidity on my part they were published with tons of graphical
glitches. All should be well now. This would have been cleared up sooner but
my cable connection has been on the fritz for several days now. Apologies for the mess
ups.
December 16th 2000: Andy Craven has been working hard and has
plenty to show for it. A triple smash of Stuart Smith's Heaven and Earth goodness,
including a review of the new album, "Windows to the
World", and interviews with guitarist Stuart Smith
and his singer on WttW, Kelly
Keeling (ex-Baton Rouge). If that isn't enough for you then check out
Andy's other review for Kip
Winger - Songs from the Ocean Floor.
December 14th 2000: fixed a bad link on the interviews page,
so now the Zeelion
interview can be read once again in its full glory. Also updated the Playlist after over a year.
December 13th 2000: Continuing
with the Christmas spirit, we present the first ever RainbowFlame's Metal
Domain Xmas Holiday Metal Buyer's Guide, which is not only has the ultimate
tongue twister title, but is a rundown of the top releases per genre. Get ready to
brave the malls and gobble up these must-haves from the past three decades.
December 11th part II 2000: Christmas is coming, and the RFMD has been decked out in its Xmas
best. Enjoy the graphics until next year!
December 11th 2000: 80s Metal madness!
All new Top
10 covering the underappreciated gems of the 80s, a brand new review by Andy
Craven for Steve
Steven's Atomic Playboys, an index
setup so past 80s weekend features can be access at the click of a mouse, plus a brand new poll. A
raincheck must be issued on the mp3 updates due to a problem with the host server.
Those will be posted as soon as the problem is corrected.
December 9th 2000: Long
overdue for a review of a bad album, that problem has been taken care of with Alanna
Evans' review of Iron
Fortress - Iron Fortress, the side project of Leviathan's founder.
Coming up tomorrow: an Andy Craven penned review I've been holding onto for a couple of
days to go along with the 80s Weekend update.
December 6th 2000: Better
late than never, December's showcase album of the month is none other than Jorn - Starfire.
How could a mix of cover tunes and a couple of original tracks be album of the
month? If it's well done, that's how. Read on faithful metal warriors!
December 4th: not the
kind of update I had hoped for, but still fairly decent. Part II of the Top 10
covers is posted on the
80s weekend page, and a new review by...*drum roll* ILYA ULBERG, his first
since June 8th.. (sorry had to mention that) for Ark - Ark.
Apparently some people don't get this album (like me) but t hen again others do. See
what Ilya has to say about this one.
November 25th part II 2000: added in the 80s weekend poll
plus an all new set of mp3s to download, four 'rare tracks' and of course a taste of the
featured 80s album of the weekend.
November 25th 2000: This was supposed to be posted on the
biggest shopping day of the year, but instead comes to you at the last day of the weekend.
Two new reviews: Andy Craven's excellent take on the disappointing Yngwie Malmsteen - War to
End All Wars and Alanna Evans gets nostalgic over Rainbow -
Straight Between Eyes. Plus the 80s Weekend Page
has been updated with a new Top Ten for this week. There is still one feature unfinished
that should be up sometime in the next couple of days... then no more updates until Dec.
1st, unless something comes up. So stay tuned til then!
November 21st 2000: No
80s weekend!? that's right...due to lack of materials and being tied up over the weekend
myself, the 80s weekend update has been neglected, but never fear, it will return next
Friday with a massive chunk of metal goodness to feast on during post Thanksgiving madness
(for the US residents atleast). That's all well and good but what about until then?
How about a brand new and *very* in-depth review of Edguy - The Savage
Poetry (2000 remake) by Alanna Evans which pits the original "Savage
Poetry" head to head against this new version, for a battle to the end! See how
these five year old tunes have stood the test of time.
November 19th 2000: due
to some difficulty with the file server, yesterday's update was actually not posted until
today, sad but true.
November 18th 2000: two
more reviews! The much awaited and requested Symphony X - V
review handled by Torgeir Krokfjord. Contender for album of the year? Read and find
out. Also another new review by Andy Craven this time for Vanishing Point -
Tangled in Dream, another 2000 release, see how it stacks up.
November 17th 2000: two
brand new reviews, yet another awesome review by Andy Craven, this time for Mob Rules - Temple of
Two Suns, and the first new review by Joseph White in quite awhile, for the
'experimental' prog album Superior
- Younique. <
November 12th 2000: A little
late with the 80s Weekend Update but it IS a whopper! Six new mp3s, a brand new
review from Andy Craven for one of the classics...Dio - Holy Diver,
new poll, plus this week's Top 10: the Most Revolutionary Albums of the 80s. Go bask
in the metal glory here.
November 4th 2000: the grand opening of 80s Weekends with a
new review by Alanna Evans for Warlock - Triumph
and Agony, plus the Top 10 80s ballads, and an assortment of mp3s, check it
all out here.
November 3rd 2000: Andy Craven is back again with a new album
review, for Joe
Stump's Reign of Terror - Second Coming. Is it Yngwie rehashed or something
else entirely? Find out!
November 1st, 2000: The Showcase Album of the Month for
November is
Johansson - The Last Viking, written by Andy Craven, a very deserving, and
excellent 'supergroup' release that did not quite get the recognition it deserved.
October 30th, 2000: a
double dose of metal treats to carry you through the Halloween holiday. First off is
a review by Torgeir Krokfjord for Hammerfall - Legacy of
Kings which was lost to the world for some time but now is online for the
world to see. Also done for Halloween is a review of Helloween - The
Dark Ride by Alanna Evans. It was originally going to be posted on 'the
day' but it seems I'll be out of pocket for the holiday so here it is a day early.
October 21st, 2000: hopefully
Andy Craven's David
Coverdale - Into the Light review is now properly fixed. Fingers are
crossed very tightly on this one. The pain that stupid mistakes can make... moving
right along, there's a new review today for a brand spankin' new album, Firehouse - O2,
written by Alanna Evans, which should be a fan pleaser.
October 14, 2000: Horrified, I found that the link to Virgin Steele - Age of
Consent (re-write) was missing and instead linked to the original (and
MUCH inferior review) that appeared on the site. This has been fixed so those that
didn't get a chance to read the review the first time around before it was broken can now
check it out in its full glory.
October 9th, 2000: Finally the first Showcase Album of the
Month has been posted since July! October's selection is Ten - Babylon,
an awesome AOR album that has plenty for everyone. If you haven't heard it yet then this
review is a must-read!
October 5th, 2000: Andy Craven's review of David Coverdale -
Into the Light, stacks the new album up against his heavier past that's still
haunting him, how does it sound when compared to the Whitesnake classics? Find out....
October 4th, 2000: hot
off the presses, another Alanna Evans penned review, this one for Rhapsody - Holy
Thunderforce EP/single, a taste of what is to come from the Italian
"Hollywood metal" heroes.
October 1st, 2000: A rare review for the Metal Domain - a
review of an EP, but this is a special one. Alanna Evans goes in-depth with the
death and life of mortals and the interference of the gods in Virgin Steele - Magick
Fire-Music EP.
September 28th, 2000: An
album by a little known band, Glory - Crisis Vs.
Crisis reviewed quite in-depth by Alanna Evans.
September 27th, 2000: Joseph
White reviews Jacobs Dream - S/T, an 80s flashback
album with a Christian twist.
September 22, 2000: yet another dual review treat, with the
usual suspects dishing out the descriptions and ratings. Yet another excellent
review by Andy Craven for Testament - The
Ritual, well put together and giving a nice glimpse of the album as always,
and a review for the new Doro
- Calling the Wild disc byy Allanna Evans, yet another triumphant return to
the metallic fold. A new review by Joseph White is in the wings for tomorrow's
update.
September 15th, 2000: two
more reviews, first one is by Andy Craven for Tesla - Bust a Nut,
an album that seems to have been highly overlooked by the metal community, mostly due to
the time when it was released. Next up is a piece of the yellow n black attack, Stryper - Against the Law
by Alanna Evans.
September 9th, 2000: a
double dipper, first off another Dio review by Andy Craven, this time the strangely
strange Dio -
Strange Highways goes under fire, then we have Alanna Evans' opinions on what
Michael Bolton's guitarist was up to in the early 90s, not to mention Graham Bonnet,
together but not forever on Blackthorne -
Afterlife. Don't say we didn't warn you.
September 1st, 2000: new
album review for Firehouse - Category 5,
which misses alot more than it hits.
August 30th, 2000:
hopefully the images on the two reviews posted on the last update are now visible.
More to come later tonight/early morning tomorrow.
August 27th, 2000: another
really delayed piece of material is finally finding its way online, Andy Craven's
wonderful review of an album that needs no introduction: the classic Rainbow - Rising.
Also, Alanna Evans writes a review for Dreamhunter - Kingdom
Come, a new album with a classic '80s' twist.
August 24th, 2000: well its been a long couple of weeks, but
finally an update has been posted, Joseph White's interview with Shadow Gallery vocalist
Mike Baker, which should have been posted almost a month ago. Alot more to come soon
as I try to play 'catch up'.
August 3rd: 2000: A
double delight. Andy Craven interviews Zeelion and a new album
review is finally posted, this one for Giant - Time To Burn.
August 1st, 2000: After two weeks finally a new update is
posted. My old computer crashed and all my old programs went with it, so I'm doing
the best I can on what I currently have available until I can get the older stuff
replaced. Now moving right along, Andy Craven has submitted a new interview with
none other than Doogie White.
A much larger update is in the wings for later.
July 18th, 2000:Beat the heat with Alanna Evans' review of
Street Talk -
Transition. Also, the ratings system we use to review albums has been posted on
this page: Ratings System In
Depth and can also be accessed from the Metal Reviews Page.
July 16th, 2000: Andy Craven has submitted a fantastic
review for Yngwie Malmsteen
- Inspiration. This is thhe wway Tribute albums SHOULD be done....
July 15th, 2000: Two brand new album reviews, the first by Joseph White for Vanden Plas - The God
Thing, and the second by Torgeir Krokfjord for Blind Guardian -
Imaginations From the Other Side, which recieved a perfect score? That does
not happen too often. Torgeir's Luca Turilli review's score has been changed upon
request, as well as the James Byrd
Tribute has recieved a news update, detailing information on Byrd's page at
Mp3.com.
July 13th, 2000: the lazy days of summer are upon us, but not even that can stop us
from updating! Alanna Evans totally throws out the disgracefully lacking Virgin Steele - Age of Consent
review, and replaces it with an all new, in-depth look at the remastered version of this
late 80s 'lost' album. Can a couple of bonus tracks really make that much of a
difference? Find out!
July 11th, 2000: lack of updates can be blamed on several things, a few essential keys on
my keyboard are messed up, plus I got Icewind
Dale and Diablo II at the same time..
yes shame on me, for neglecting the site but today I return with two very nice
updates. These are both equally impressive and definitely worth the time. Andy
Craven recently interviewed Carljohan Grimmack of
Narnia and the results of that can be found *here* while Jeffery
Tye has submitted another massive review, this time for Gamma Ray - Blast From the
Past.
July 8th, 2000: a positively awesome update for Saturday, featuring 2 new reviews, one by
Joseph White for Threshold
- Psychedelicatessen and the secondd byy Steven for Iced Earth - Alive in
Athens. Also an exclusive preview of James Byrd's upcoming album: Flying Beyond the 9,
written by Andy Craven can be found at the James
Byrd Tribute, along with a news update. More cleanup madness with Zeelion - Zeelion, and Dio - Lock Up The Wolves, all
redesigned by Andy Craven. James Byrd - Crimes of
Virtuosity recieves not only a new coat of paint but also has a new score and 2000
update.
July 7th, 2000:A pile of updates on this Friday morning. Lots of tweaks to theJag Panzer - Thane to the
Throne review, among other things, but let's get to the really good stuff. Two
great reviews, the first by Jeffery Tye for Arena - Immortal?,
and the second by Steven for Various Artists Live
(Conception, Gamma Ray, Helicon, Rage) - Power of Metal, a strange compilation of
live tracks from a 1993 concert. These two just can't be missed. Enjoy!
July 6th, 2000: lots of tweaks and updates for today, including 2000 updates and/or
rating changings for Whitesnake
- Restless Heart, Westworld
- S/T, Don Dokken - Up
From the Ashes. One review has been removed (Testament) and the Edwin Dare - The Unthinkable
Deed has been updated with an additional cover featured so you can see both cover
images that were made for the album.
July 5th, 2000:a couple of days
late, but the extra time was worth it. The Showcase Album of the Month for July 2000
is Angel Dust - Enlighten
the Darkness. Let it surround you.
July 4th, 2000: well in the US its the "Fourth of July", another excuse to party
and play with gun powder packed tubes made in China, called fireworks of course, which is also the title of the album reviewed by
Alanna Evans for this US Holiday, Angra - Fireworks.
So what if the song is actually referring to New Year's? Don't let that spoil the
fun.
July 3rd, 2000:
Andy Craven's review of Damned Nation - Grand Design
is now online. A triumph of hard rock? Still working on album of the month so it
will not be posted until later tonight or tomorrow.
July 1st, 2000: what's old is new again or so it is with Blackmore's Night - Shadows of
the Moon, back online and updated for 2000.
June 29th, 2000:readded Letter X
- Time of the Gathering to the albuum rreview list. This review has been missing off
the page for who knows how long? But for those that missed it the first time, now
will have a chance to read the review of this overlooked and forgotten album. Also: The James Byrd Tribute's "JB
News" section has been updated with information reguarding the Fifth Angel
re-releases.
June 28th, 2000: Alanna Evans puts to words the sweet sounds of mediocrity, ARK - Ark.
June 27th, 2000: Torgier Krokfjord submits his opinion
of Luca Turilli - King of the
Nordic Twilight, which is the second time this album has recieved a high score on
this site. Musical perfection? find out.
June 26th, 2000: Andre Matos fans should like this review by Steven for: Viper - Theatre of Fate.
June 25th, 2000: two fantastic reviews, Torgier Krokfjord's opinions of Stratovarius - Infinite
as well as an absolutely beautifully done review of Jag Panzer - Thane to the
Throne by Jeffery Tye. See this one to believe it.
June 23rd, 2000: Ironically the file name describes this album perfectly : JN(John
Norum) Slipped. See just exactly how far he's 'slipped' with Andy Craven's review of
John Norum - Slipped Into
Tomorrow.
June 22nd, 2000: Andy Craven submits a new review for WASP - The Crimson Idol,
is this the best of Blackie?
June 21st, 2000: another new review writer, Torgeir Krokfjord, with his debut review, Skylark - The Divine Gates Part
I: Gate of Hell. This was supposed to be up *yesterday* but my ISP had other
plans.
June 19th, 2000: Alanna Evans has written and posted a new review for Talisman - Genesis, one
of the many albums Jeff Scott Soto has sang on.
June 18th, 2000
part III (9:16 PM): Jeffery Tye makes his reviewing debut here at the Domain. An
impressive showing with Stratovarius - Infinite.
But dont just take my word on it, see for yourself.
June 18th, 2000
part II (12:56 PM):SkinZ of Steel has been updated with a slight redesign and new images. It should
be easier to move around on the site now. Also seven new winamp skinz featured: John
Norum, Dio's Magica (done by AceMan), WishAmp (done by Tony Westgard of Seven Wishes!), DC
Cooper, David Coverdale & two Lana Lane skinz. If you haven't checked out this valuable resource
yet, then I strongly suggest you do.
June 18th, 2000 (1:35 AM):Andy Craven interviews two members from
melodic rock sensation, Damned
Nation! Fixed Bruce
Dickinson - Accident of Birth link. More to come later!
June 16th, 2000 part III (10:02AM): here's the review
by Joseph I promised earlier, for Dream Theater - Scenes from a
Memory. Also, another review restored, Bruce Dickinson - Accident of
Birth.
June 16th, 2000
part II (2:23 AM):The 'Review Restoration Project' (or TRRP if you will) has now been kicked
off with Yngwie Malmsteen -
Facing the Animal, restored and back online. The text of the review is
untouched, appearing just as it did when it was first posted in 1997 (lyrical bits
intact), but with an additional wrap up added to correct it for the modern day and a new,
more feasible score with our tighter rating system. All other old reviews will be
fixed in a similiar fashion, with a few that are beyond repair and totally incorrect will
be thrown out (Dream Theater - Falling into Infinity as an example). More
updates to come later with 'all new' material, featuring a new review by Joseph White.
June 16th, 2000: Steven submits a new review for Edwin Dare - The Unthinkable
Deed. Finally credited the Additional Comments properly on Andy Craven's Thunder - Back Street Symphony
review. Other minor changes include updating the 'About Us' page & 'Suggestions and Comments',
hopefully its not such an eyesore now. Thanks to various problems, the Chris Caffery
interview was not properly documented on the interviews page, and the
Caffery review wrongly credited Chris with playing on Streets, and Edge of Thorns, which
its well known that he did not. This update was also delayed several hours due to a
telephone line 'outage' and more zaniness from my ISP. All is well now (I
hope). More updates to come later.
June 15th, 2000: another
interview! Joseph White interviews Chris Caffery, Savatage and
Trans Siberian Orchestra guitarist. This was actually finished yesterday but my ISP
wouldn't cooperate long enough for the files to be uploaded.
June 14th, 2000: Andy Craven conducts another great interview, this time with Iain Ashley Hersey. Its
long, and very imformative, well worth the read.
June 13th, 2000: Andy Craven reviews Thunder - Back Street Symphony,
a classic that came from the birth of the 90s.
June 12th, 2000: Newcomer traditional power metal band, Iron Fire, goes 'under fire'
in the latest addition to the review section, Iron Fire - Thunderstorm.
Also returned Pain of Salvation -
One Hour by the Concrete Lake to the review list. It somehow got deleted? So if
you missed it, do check out this masterpiece now.
June 10th, 2000: The third opinion of Iron Maiden - Brave New World
is now up, this time written by Alanna Evans, oddly inspired by the two that came
before. Before sending hate mail, remember, an opinion is just that, an
opinion. On that note, read on!
June 9th, 2000: The fifth exclusive interview for
RainbowFlame's Metal Domain is now online, this time with Keith Sudano from Eternity X.
June 8th, 2000: Ilya Ulberg has been inspired to write his 'seasonal' review
*grin*, offering up a second opinion and overall great review (whether you like what is
stated within or not) of Iron
Maiden - Brave New World.
June 7th, 2000 Part II: more metal goodness starting out with a review by Andy Craven for Iron Maiden - Brave New World.
Is it a 'brave' return to the 80s or a rehash of the 90s? Read to find
out! In other news, the James Byrd
Tribute has been updated with information about Byrd's upcoming album Flying Beyond
the 9.
June 7th, 2000: An interview
with Anthony Cedergren from the Swedish hard rock outfit Seven Wishes is the main
update for today, and makes for a great read. Enjoy!
June 6th, 2000: brand new review by Andy Craven for Artension - Machine, the
latest in the ongoing Artension saga.
June 4th, 2000: An excellent new review by Joseph White for Extreme - III Sides to
Every Story.
June 3rd, 2000: A really nice update for today. Most importantly, an interview with guitarist
Stuart Smith, Andy Craven gets all credit for putting this one together, and Alanna Evans'
review of Pain of Salvation -
One Hour by the Concrete Lake.
June 2nd, 2000: Andy Craven reviews Extreme - Waiting for the
Punchline, does it have any relation to their smash hit song "More than
Words"? Find out
here.
June 1st, 2000: I wrote this review almost a week ago but have 'held it over' so it
could take the spot as June's Showcase Album of the Month, written by Alanna Evans and it
happens to be none other than Axel
Rudi Pell - The Masquerade Ball, the newest addition to the ARP lineup, click the link
to see how it stacks up against the rest of his catalogue.
May 31st, 2000:fixed a few mistakes on the Reingold review. All I
can say there is...oops. Added a new review by Alanna Evans for the limited edition Sorcery - "2"
disc, and a few sites to the links
page, including webpages for Lana Lane, Sorcery, James Byrd and more. If
there's anything wrong don't hestitate to email me. Enjoy!
May 30th, 2000: Reingold -
Universe is the disc in question today, and features none
other than Goran Edman in the vocal spot.
May 29th, 2000: a new review by Andy Craven for Mike Tramp - Remembering White Lion,
and judging by the rating, White Lion may be worth remembering, but this 'tribute' to the
band is not. Check it out!
May 27th, 2000: Its been a couple of days without an update, but I already have
next month's "album of the month" review penned. Today we have a new
review for Blue Tears - Blue
Tears.
May 23rd, 2000: new review by Andy Craven for Deep Purple - Slaves &
Masters, another link in the JLT celebration.
May 22nd, 2000
part II (11:42 am): new image map after 2 years with the old one! Hope ya'll think its
as groovy as I do! This is posted to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the web site which
started back in mid -to- late May 1997.
May 22nd, 2000 (8:28 am): woo a
new review for Skagarack
- A Slice of Heaven, an extremeely fun melodic rock album.
May 21st, 2000: an update at SkinZ
of Steel, with five
new skinz, 3 Yngwie Malmsteen, Adrian Vandenberg & Silent Witness.
May 20th, 2000: Another day another review, for Badlands - Badlands. This
proves that I don't just review albums that I personally like...
May 19th, 2000: continuing with the Joe Lynn Turner theme, yet another JLT themed review,
for JLT - Rescue You.
Also added a pair of notes to the Metal Reviews page.
May 18th, 2000: as promised, to go along with the JLT interview is a review of Joe Lynn Turner - Hurry Up and
Wait. Read and enjoy.
May 17th, 2000: A brand new exclusive interview with Joe Lynn Turner has been
posted! It turned out to be a real nice piece of work. A review of JLT's Hurry Up
And Wait should be up sometime tomorrow.
May 14th, 2000:today is the grand debut of the new James Byrd themed 'featured artist
tribute - mini site', with a Byrd Biography, lots of assorted information on this fabulous
guitarist, links to reviews of his work, and a discography, all guaranteed to be accurate
and approved by Byrd himself. Stop by and take a look around at http://www.oocities.org/byrdtribute/
May 9th, 2000: moving right along with another great review by Andy Craven for Tesla - Psychotic Supper.
May 8th, 2000:second update of the day is a new review by Andy Craven for Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood.
Some priceless comments here just have to be seen to be believed about this album that is
now a little over a decade old.
May 8th, 2000: smoothed out the rough edges and restored the cover image to the Yngwie - The Seventh Sign
review.
May 7th, 2000:
Three days in the making, I have finally posted one of
the greatest reviews I have ever written for a very worthy album, Yngwie Malmsteen - The Seventh
Sign. Read it or weep.
May 5th, 2000: continuing the cleanup of Yngwie Malmsteen Tribute Shrine
section with a major update to the Yngwie Biography page including
a total redesign, bringing it up to date. I also shifted all 1999 what's new updates to
the Yesterday's News Page,
which is also accessible at the top of this page or at the very bottom, for your dose of
updates throughout the past two years.
May 4th, 2000 part II: Updated the Yngwie
Pages which are now called Yngwie
Malmsteen Tribute Shrine. Cleaned the broken links out of the main page,
added a link to the Yngwie Malmsteen "Best Of" Winamp skin & updated the Yngwie links section of that
mini "site". I'm ashamed for not taking care of this earlier.
May 4th, 2000: New review for Street Talk - Collaboration
done by Alanna Evans. Goran Edman fans need to read this one.
May 3rd, 2000: Yet another great review by Andy Craven, this time one for the
guitar shredder fans for John
Jaunese - Fastest Guitar on Earth. Also, much to my dismay I noticed that
alot of the old review files are gone off the server they were on so some of the old
reviews from 1997 are not there and will be restored shortly, sorry for the inconvience.
May 2nd, 2000: Even though I uploaded the Evergrey review on the 30th, I
forgot to upload the changes to this page and the metal review page to reflect the
addition so even though it was there, no one could access it or know about it. All
of that has been corrected now, sorry. As for the changes that have been done today,
I dont even know where to begin. Mainly is the better organization of the frontpage,
with "Domain
Features" & "About
Us" updated and added to the main image map as well as a link to RainbowFlame's
sister site "SkinZ of Steel",
which is basically another section of this site that was so huge it warranted a URL of its
own. Also changed tons of smaller pages, cleaned up some things, including removing
the dead MIDI page and all the dead mp3 links off of the Mp3 page which is located in the
currently neglected sounds
section. There is still lots more work to be done, but this is a decent head
start. OK now down to the REAL update for today, the Showcase Album of the Month for May
which is Axel Rudi Pell - Made in
Germany by Andy Craven. This was a makeshift arrangement but it comes out
alright.
April 30th, 2000: the Interviews page has
recieved a facelift and the James Byrd interview added to the list. If you haven't
read it yet, check it out *here*.
Steven has submitted another review, this time for Evergrey - Solitude Dominance
Tragedy. As always, much more to come including more new exclusive interviews,
brand new features, and the usual healthy dose of heavy metal reviews and more. The
month of May is looking up to be a very exciting time.
April 29th, 2000: Doh! I forgot to link the James Byrd - Son of Man
review here, what a stupid mistake! Its all fixed now however. I just whipped out a
brand new review for Seven
Wishes - S/T which will sure to please those that like their AOR on the heavy side. As
I always say.. "be sure to check it out!" You will be sorry if you don't.
April 28th, 2000: another installment of quality
reviews, this time a fantastic review by Andy Craven for the equally impressive James Byrd - Son of Man
album.
April 25th, 2000: incredible update (no really), two brand new reviews, first by
Steven for Conception -
The Last Sunset, and second but definitely not last is Joseph White's review of Royal Hunt - Paradox.
Both are 90s classics.
April 23rd, 2000:its Easter Sunday and even though updates in April have been few and far
between, today we offer up something truly special, an interview of fantastic guitarist
James Byrd, done by Andy
Craven. Go forth and read, no one will be disappointed with this piece of
work. Happy Easter!
April 16th, 2000:
today marks a real rarity for the Domain, a thrash
review done by Steven for Testament - The Legacy. Do check it out, because there
most likely wont be too many more like it. Another review by Steven will be posted
tomorrow.
April 11th, 2000: Not just one, but two new reviews for brand new albums released
this year, the first being Dio
- Magica written by Andy Cravenn annd Pink Cream 69 - Sonic Dynamite
handled by me. I still have one more review that I havent managed to post in
almost two weeks but I will get it up hopefully tomorrow. Til then, enjoy today's
update.
April 2nd, 2000: well there was no update yesterday but there *is* one today, first
off is yet another fantastic new review by Andy Craven for the Iain Ashley Hersey album "Fallen Angel".
Also the showcase album for the month of April is Icon - Night of the Crime.
It took me *forever* to write this, and I hope it doesn't suffer too much because of
it. Im lazy today so I'm saving a review for the update tomorrow.
March 31st, 2000:
new review by Andy Craven for Dio - Lock Up The Wolves,
one of the last great cds of Dio's career. Kind of short on time, for now, so look
forward to another update tomorrow.
March 30th, 2000: a sure sign of the apocalypse, Ilya Ulberg has submitted his
'quarterly' review this time for Charisma - Karma, a band
formed of ex-Ivanhoe members but don't let that scare you off. Also a new in-depth
review by Joseph White for Savatage
- Streets: A Rock Opera.>
March 27th, 2000: almost all the ratings for Joseph White's
albums have been changed on the Metal Review Page to reflect the new review scale, which I
will have up shortly. I have not changed them on the actual pages for each review
but will soon. Also added is a new review for the legendary Madison - Best In Show
album.
March 19th, 2000: A nice update today, a trio of reviews, one by Andy Craven for Impellitteri - Eye of the Hurricane,
one by Joseph White for Shadow
Gallery - Shadow Gallery and the final one is by me for Highlord - Hier of Power.
Enjoy!
March 16th, 2000: brand new review for Danger Danger - Return of the
Great Gildersleeves, truly a strange album.
March 10th, 2000: a very well written review for a horrible album. Andy
Craven's review for MSG -
The Unforgiven. Can it be forgiven? Read on and find out.
March 6th, 2000 Part II: as promised here is the third review of the day, Giuffria - Silk + Steel.
March 6th, 2000: a great update for ya. Two album reviews, the first by Andy Craven
for the Zeelion - S/T
album and the second I wrote for Obsession - Methods of Madness,
which is for both the original release and the reissue, and has covers of both albums
posted. A third album review is in the can and will be added later in the day.
March 1st, 2000: another review by Andy Craven, and an awesome one at that. Stuart Smith - Heaven and Earth
is not only the album of the month for March but one of the few (only?) pages on this site
that has a white background. Go see for yourself.
February 19th,
2000: finally a new
update. Andy Craven's excellent review of the overlooked and underappreciated Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer is
now up. Also, the new SkinZ Of
SteeL, heavy metal winamp skin site is now up and running (sort of) and featuring
almost two dozen metallic skins on display including many featuring Iced Earth, Symphony
X, Stratovarius, Whitesnake, and more.
February 12th, 2000: Helloween - Metal Jukebox recieves a note tacked at the end and a rating
change, which pretty much fits the rest of the review better. Also a brand *new*
review for Shy - Excess All Areas.
Find out why this album earns classic status in the subgenre it falls in.
February 11th,
2000: I did something I really
and truly hate. I updated the "Links" section with
tons of new links, nearly 2 dozen added (22 was my last count). Links for Shy, Nevermore, Lake of
Tears, Dio, Whitesnake, Stratovarius and more. Plus I made it easier to figure out what's
new, what's not, and what's changed... also fixed the link right below for Steven's debut
review(ooh that rhymes...).
February 9th, 2000:new review by a new reviewer, Steven makes his debut with Noctural Rites - The Sacred
Talisman. As always... more to come.
February 7th, 2000: as promised, a new review by Andy Craven for Rainbow - Stranger In Us
All. I agree with this review 110%, its perfect. So go read up on one of
the most underrated albums of the 90s.
February 5th, 2000:well the big update has been delayed. Its taking 10 times longer
than I thought it would, but when it debuts I think most everyone will be really pleased
with the results. For now though I am trying to catch up everything I have been
neglecting. Added the image for the Ivanhoe review, added a
footnote for Joseph's Def
Leppard - Euphoria review. And if anyone cares, I added the "label" to the
Banshee review, which is of course, Atlantic - Titanium. To come tomorrow :
new review by Andy Craven.
February 1st, 2000: Finally managed to debut a showcase album on time. As
most have probably already guessed its Kamelot - The Fourth Legacy, you
can read more than you probably ever wanted to read about it by clicking the title
link. Also added a link to the review from the front page, altered the score for
Demons & Wizards and last but not least, removed the link to the Valentine's Page
which was very rudely eradicated from existance. Hopefully I can find a new server for
these files so they stay online through the holiday. Tomorrow's update: fixing a few
things and hopefully revamping a much requested section on the site. I promise no one will
be disappointed if all goes according to plan.
January 29th, 2000:my apologies to Andy Craven for holding his review so long, my computer
wouldn't boot for a couple of days and thus this update is a little late.
However, it *is* a great update, with two killer reviews, the first by Andy of course for Artension - Forces of Nature,
and the first of two reviews I have promised, Demons & Wizards - S/T.
More to come as always.
January 22nd, 2000: two new reviews by Joseph White! the excellent and sprawling
in-detail review of Savatage -
Edge of Thorns and a review of the critically acclaimed prog 'masterpiece' Threshold - Wounded Land.
My apologies for holding the Threshold review for so long, but I had problems finding a
cover for it, but its all taken care of and posted for your enjoyment. To come.... reviews
for two blockbuster brand new albums... curious? Stay tuned to find out...
January 20th,
2000 part II: Added a link to the Valentines Day Love songs site.
11 metal mp3s for you to download all in one spot. Also added an image on the index
page of a little advertisement for the upcoming Kamelot album. I just put it there
because it looked cool.
January 20th,
2000: not one, but two new reviews by Andy Craven,
for a pair of very different albums, Mr. Big - Get Over It, and Roland Grapow - Kaleidoscope.
New album review by Joseph to be posted tomorrow, so check back for it.
January 18th,
2000: Sail the crimson cosmos with Lake of Tears in a
new review of their album. Lake of Tears - Crimson Cosmos
is just stranger than words but I took a shot at it anyway.
January 13th, 2000: added Ilya Ulberg's
Top 10 to the 1999 Year In Review page, as well as a brand new album review by Andy
Craven for Dio - Angry Machines.
January 10th, 2000:The 1999 Year in
Review is up, including the top albums as picked by myself and Andy Craven, top songs,
and more from 1999.
January 8th,
2000: feels weird not
to type 1999 anymore. So the first update of the new year, with a new Showcase
review for Jan 2000 of Elegy
- Lost, as well as a few changees mmade to The Top 20th.... page.
There will be some new features introduced here soon so watch this space for updates of
course ;)
December 31th, 1999: the last day of 1999... and I have the pleasure of
presenting the link to a special feature... The Top 20 Albums of the 20th Century.
Enjoy and expect many great things to come on the site in 2000.
