At the beginning, Doumyouji is always bullying Makino because she is the only one who has ever dared to stand up against him. She naturally hates him because of his egoistic and arrogant behaviour. She is attracted the silent but compassionate Rui - she falls in love with him at first because he was the only one out of F4 who was remotely kind to her. But his childhood sweetheart Toudou Shizuka comes back. Shizuka is the one Rui has loved ever since he was a little kid. She was the one who brought him out from his autism in the first place. She is a beautiful and accomplished model. Later she leaves Rui to go to France, he goes after her because of Makino's encouragement. Meanwhile, a romance kind of develops between Doumyouji and Makino - he has already told her that he likes her a lot, but Rui still remains in her heart. After a while, Rui comes back after a rejection from Shizuka. Rui starts dating Makino but it doesn't work out well because she has already fallen in love with Doumyouji.

     A complicated romance ensues - naturally they have lots of arguments and fights and Rui is always there to comfort her as a good friend and 'guardian angel' whenever something goes wrong with Doumyouji. There are lots of complications before Doumyouji and Makino can be together - his mother, Doumyouji Kaede forbids them to be together because Makino is so poor and has no social status, Kaede then forces his son to be engaged to another rich girl - Okawahara Shigeru. Shigeru falls in love with Doumyouji but Makino forever remains number one in his heart and in the end they don't get married at all. The main villains in the story are probably Doumyouji Kaede, Sakurako, Asai and co.  It is a really cute shoujo manga - though I really would've preferred a Rui x Tsukushi pairing ^^

     There is a Taiwan version of Hana Yori Dango called "Meteor Garden" - the very reason I got hooked anyway. It's almost the same as the original manga with a few minor changes.
