On Saturday,
April 17, 1999 the Craftsman Truck series raced at Martinsville. Although not as popular as the
Busch or Winston Cup series race fans are usually treated to great racing by these drivers. Because
we were in town for the Winston Cup series the guys decided that we would attend the race on
Saturday too. It was a beautiful day (70 degrees and sunny). Here are the trucks lined up before the
start of the race.
The start of the
race was delayed due to a tennis match(?!)going over on ESPN2. It started about 20 minutes
past the scheduled start. However, there was some excitement as Ernie Irvan cut an oil line on the
warm up laps spilling oil all over the track. Here are the trucks as they get ready to start. My first
impression is that it is LOUD!!!!!
Here's Tom Hubert's truck in the pits for an unscheduled pit stop. This cost him a couple of laps with the new pits wrapping around the corners.
Here was the first wreck of the day as Rick
Crawford lost it in turn 3. He hit the wall pretty hard. He was not injured but the truck was done for
the day.

Here are a couple of good shots of the racing that was going on. It was a real good race that saw the typical Martinsville "rubbin and bangin" going on.
Jack Sprauge had a good race
going until he cut down a tire. Here he is headed to his pit stall to change
tires.
Jimmy Hensley at the
start / finish line celebrating the victory. It sure was good to see the "KING'S" driver win one at
Martinsville. Jimmy is a local racing hero and the fans certainly enjoyed his victory
dance on the back of the truck!!!
